Windstar Cruises - logoWindstar Cruises, a leading name in luxury small-ship cruising, is making waves with a dramatic expansion of its South Pacific offerings, set to launch in 2026. This bold move underscores Windstar’s unparalleled commitment to delivering immersive travel experiences in some of the world’s most breathtaking yet remote destinations. Building on its already impressive presence in Tahiti and the Marquesas, the cruise line will now sail to new corners of the Pacific, including Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands—making it easier for adventurous travellers to access these otherwise hard-to-reach tropical paradises.

Starting in 2026, Windstar’s itineraries will take guests to various South Pacific gems, including short yet packed itineraries such as the 7-night Tuamotus cruise and the 11-night Marquesas cruise. These new routes are a perfect gateway for travellers eager to discover the wonders of these secluded islands. Plus, Windstar is introducing an array of air and hotel packages, complete with stays in Bora Bora’s iconic overwater bungalows, allowing guests to extend their journey in sheer luxury.

This expansion is a testament to Windstar’s commitment to the South Pacific, where the cruise line has operated for over 36 years. With deep-rooted partnerships with local communities and an intimate understanding of the region, Windstar is poised to deliver unforgettable experiences that weave Polynesian culture seamlessly into every aspect of the voyage.

A Heritage of Excellence in the South Pacific

Windstar Cruises is no stranger to the waters of the South Pacific. With over three decades of sailing experience in Tahiti and surrounding islands, the company has established itself as a leader in the region, earning accolades for its ability to offer unique, culturally immersive, and eco-conscious travel experiences. Adding Fiji, Tonga, and the Cook Islands represents the next chapter in Windstar’s storied history.

The company’s small ship, the all-suite Star Breeze, which accommodates just 312 passengers, provides an intimate and luxurious experience. Its size allows it to access remote locations without overwhelming the local environment, a critical factor in maintaining these sensitive areas’ ecological and cultural balance. Windstar President Christopher Prelog eloquently says, “These faraway South Pacific islands exemplify the heart of Polynesian culture. They are extremely difficult to access, especially if you’re piecing together your trip. On Windstar, you’re able to sail there easily…without overwhelming the destination from a tourism, ecological, and cultural perspective.”

This small-footprint approach sets Windstar apart from more extensive cruise lines and ensures a more sustainable way to explore the world’s most secluded and fragile ecosystems.

Highlights of the New 2026 Itineraries

Windstar’s new 2026 offerings are designed to appeal to both seasoned cruisers and those new to the small-ship experience. Each itinerary has been carefully crafted to showcase the South Pacific islands’ natural beauty, cultural richness, and unique heritage.

Flowers of the South French Polynesia (15 Days)

Starting in the bustling city of Lautoka, Fiji, this 15-day voyage takes guests through a rich tapestry of islands, including stops at the SavuSavu village and the Taveuni lush rainforests. The itinerary also includes visiting Nuku’alofa, Tonga—a brand-new port for Windstar—and overnighting in Bora Bora before concluding in Papeete, Tahiti. The combination of vibrant local cultures, pristine beaches, and serene landscapes makes this journey one of Windstar’s most comprehensive and exciting.

Maori Storytellers & French Polynesian Treasures (10 or 11 Days)

This itinerary begins in Papeete and offers a deep dive into Polynesian culture. From the island of Raiatea to the Cook Islands’ Aitutaki and Rarotonga, guests will experience this region’s profound beauty and heritage. With an overnight stay in Bora Bora and a day on a private island in Taha’a, this itinerary promises an unforgettable blend of relaxation and adventure. A 10-day version of this sailing excludes Huahine, offering a slightly shorter yet equally immersive experience.

Tantalizing Tuamotu Islands & Beautiful Bora Bora (7 Days)

For those with limited time but an insatiable appetite for discovery, this 7-day cruise is a perfect introduction to the South Pacific. Combining the Tuamotus (Fakarava and Tiputa) with an overnight in Bora Bora, this itinerary is ideal for diving enthusiasts, offering four separate opportunities to explore underwater worlds teeming with life. It can also be paired with the 7-day Dreams of Tahiti cruise for those looking to extend their adventure.

Far Flung French Polynesia and Marquesas Magic (11 Days)

This 11-day journey takes guests to the remote Marquesas Islands, including stops at Fatu Hiva, Hiva Oa, and Nuku Hiva. The itinerary includes time in the Tuamotus, with a final stop in Bora Bora before returning to Papeete. As one of the more culturally rich experiences, this cruise highlights Polynesia’s ancient traditions and storied past.

Enhancing the Experience with Overwater Bungalows and Exclusive Packages

Starting in March 2025 and extending into 2026, Windstar will offer exclusive pre-cruise packages, allowing guests to spend several nights in an overwater bungalow in Bora Bora before embarking on their journey. The Stars Over Bora Bora Air + Overwater Villa Package is a 14-day comprehensive vacation that includes round-trip Air Tahiti Nui flights from Seattle or Los Angeles, two nights in Papeete, and three nights in Bora Bora. This luxurious package is designed for travellers who want to experience the best of both land and sea.

A Polynesian Cultural Immersion Onboard

Windstar’s commitment to the local culture goes beyond its itineraries. Each cruise will feature a local Polynesian cultural ambassador, leading guests through enriching sessions on Polynesian dance, music, language, and art. These onboard experiences culminate in the Bora Bora Destination Discovery Event, an exclusive private island feast with traditional music and fire-dancing performances.

In addition, guests can participate in the Arearea, a festive pool deck event that showcases the vibrant traditions of Tahitian culture, with hands-on activities like pareo-tying and flower lei-making. For the more adventurous, Windstar’s Watersports Platform allows for kayaking, paddle boarding, and snorkelling, with complimentary gear available for the duration of the cruise.

Expanding Fleet for a Growing Demand

Windstar is also preparing to expand its fleet, adding two new all-suite ships by 2027. This expansion will allow the beloved Wind Star, a classic Wind Class ship, to return to Tahiti, joining the Star Breeze to meet the growing demand for small-ship South Pacific cruises. This increase in capacity reflects the rising interest in Polynesian travel and Windstar’s position as a premier choice for luxury, small-ship exploration.

Windstar Cruises invites travellers to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey through the heart of the South Pacific, combining luxurious comfort with cultural immersion. To learn more about Windstar’s 2026 itineraries, visit Windstar Cruises.
