BEIA - logoThe Business Events Industry Aotearoa (BEIA) is set to make history with its 2024 conference, hosted for the first time in the stunning Taranaki region from November 25 to 27, 2024. This annual event promises to be more than just a gathering—it’s poised to shape the future of the business events industry with an immersive program designed to inspire, educate, and empower.

A Historic Milestone for Taranaki

The choice of Taranaki as the conference location signals a significant milestone for the region and the business events sector. Known for its breathtaking landscapes, including its iconic maunga (mountain) and expansive beaches, Taranaki offers the perfect backdrop for this highly anticipated event. The Devon Hotel in New Plymouth will be the main venue, hosting a series of thought-provoking educational sessions, insightful panel discussions, and interactive workshops.

The conference will culminate with a gala evening at the renowned Bowl of Brooklands, where industry achievements will be celebrated, and the prestigious BEIA Outstanding Contributor Award will be announced.

Driving the Future with Strategic Vision

The BEIA 2024 Conference draws inspiration from the Business Events National Strategic Direction 2025, also known as Pīata Mai. This forward-looking strategy outlines a clear path to measuring and expanding the sector’s positive cultural, social, environmental, and economic contributions over the next decade.

Lisa Hopkins, Chief Executive of BEIA, emphasizes the importance of this year’s theme and location.

Taranaki’s vibrant energy and natural beauty will be a powerful setting to reflect on our industry’s challenges and the opportunities we must seize to move forward. We will address critical issues and celebrate the resilience and innovation that defines the business events sector,” said Hopkins.

Engaging, Insightful, and Impactful Sessions

The event will kick off on Monday, November 25, with a special welcome session for industry newcomers and a meeting of the Regional Convention Bureaux before the official Welcome Function at Fitzroy Beach. This relaxed, beachfront gathering will provide ample networking opportunities, allowing attendees to connect in a casual yet stimulating environment.

Over the next two days, attendees will explore the most pressing issues affecting the business events industry today, with a focus on innovation, diversity, inclusion, and legacy. The conference will feature leading experts from the business events sector and other industries, offering fresh perspectives on critical topics.

Key speakers include:

  • Brad Olsen, Principal Economist at Infometrics, will provide a data-driven analysis of the sector’s economic impact and future opportunities.
  • Maretha Smit, CEO of Diversity Works, will lead discussions on fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within the industry.
  • Professor Carmel Foley from the University of Technology Sydney, an internationally recognized expert in business events research, will share insights on collaboration and cultural integration.

This year’s program will also mark the conclusion of the BEIA Mentorship Programme 2024, giving mentors and mentees a chance to celebrate their achievements and reflect on the value of professional growth within the industry.

Inspiration and Reflection to Close the Event

To wrap up the conference, a powerful closing session will feature inspiring community advocates David Latele and Manu Vatuvei, who will share their stories of redemption and resilience. Their insights are expected to leave a lasting impression on attendees, providing a fitting end to what promises to be a transformative event.

The gala evening on November 26 at the iconic Bowl of Brooklands will be a highlight of the event. It will feature entertainment and the highly anticipated announcement of the BEIA Outstanding Contributor Award.
