Dusit International has confirmed the grand reopening of its flagship property, the Dusit Thani Bangkok, on 27 September 2024. This momentous occasion marks the return of a beloved icon, rebuilt from the ground up and reimagined for a new generation of luxury travellers. Nestled in the heart of Bangkok, overlooking the lush greenery of Lumpini Park, this reborn landmark is poised to set new benchmarks in hospitality, design, and service.
As part of the more considerable Dusit Central Park mixed-use development, the new Dusit Thani Bangkok continues its tradition of blending Thai heritage with modern elegance. Featuring just 257 spacious guest rooms, down from its predecessor’s 517, the property promises unparalleled comfort, personalized service, and awe-inspiring views that capture the essence of Bangkok’s vibrant cityscape. The hotel’s reopening will signal a new chapter in the history of Dusit Thani and Bangkok’s hospitality industry.
A New Standard for Global Luxury Hospitality
Founded over five decades ago, the original Dusit Thani Bangkok was more than just a hotel—it was an ambassador of Thai hospitality to the world. When it opened in 1970, Bangkok’s tallest and grandest building became synonymous with luxury, style, and gracious service. While thoroughly modern, the new iteration remains committed to preserving these core values.
Suphajee Suthumpun, Group CEO of Dusit International, highlighted the company’s vision for the property’s relaunch, stating, “The original Dusit Thani Bangkok was a landmark that introduced the world to Thai graciousness. In reimagining the hotel, our mission was to honor its heritage while exceeding the expectations of modern, sophisticated travelers. Every aspect of the new hotel, from its design to its services, embodies the spirit of Thai culture in a way that resonates with today’s global clientele.”
A Vision of Modern Luxury Rooted in Tradition
Envisaged by Dragon Company Limited, a Thailand-based company established by Architects 49 International Limited and OMA Asia (Hong Kong) Limited, the new hotel’s architecture pays homage to the unique style of its predecessor through an architectural approach that seamlessly blends old-world charm with contemporary elegance. The hotel’s design celebrates the past, present, and future, from its unmistakable golden spire to the cantilevered window seats in every guest room.
The interiors, crafted by André Fu Studio, are equally impressive. They marry modern Thai aesthetics with warm, traditional motifs. The thoughtful design of the rooms, public spaces, and restaurants aims to create a sense of intimacy and luxury transcending time. The Heritage Floor, designed by Thai interior firm P49 Deesign & Associates Co. Ltd, preserves the spirit of the original hotel, featuring exclusive artworks that celebrate Dusit Thani’s legacy.
Ms Natapa Sriyuksiri, Managing Director of Dusit Estate and Group Creative Strategy at Dusit International, emphasized the importance of balancing old and new in the hotel’s design. “The original Dusit Thani Bangkok had a soul unlike any other property. Our goal was to translate that unique spirit into a space that is not only modern but also timeless, creating an atmosphere that feels both familiar and fresh.”
Unmatched Views and Bespoke Experiences
One of the standout features of the new Dusit Thani Bangkok is its panoramic views of Lumpini Park. All 257 guest rooms are designed to offer uninterrupted vistas of this urban oasis, creating an immersive experience for guests. The large bay windows accentuated with luxurious gold finishes, serve as “golden frames of memories,” according to Somkiat Lo-Chindapong, Deputy Managing Director of Architects 49 Limited (A49).
“Each element of the design was carefully chosen to enhance the guest’s connection to nature,” explained Mr. Lo-Chindapong. “The hotel’s strategic positioning ensures that every room enjoys breathtaking views of Lumpini Park, while the integration of Feng Shui principles creates a holistic environment that promotes well-being and balance.”
In addition to the stunning views, guests can expect to enjoy urban wellness experiences that go beyond the traditional spa concept. The hotel’s wellness offerings cater to modern travellers’ needs, providing relaxation and rejuvenation within an urban setting. The ten restaurants and bars, created in collaboration with top chefs and mixologists, offer a diverse culinary journey that reflects local and global influences.
A Commitment to Sustainability and Thai Culture
At the heart of the new Dusit Thani Bangkok is a deep commitment to sustainability and cultural preservation. The hotel’s design reflects Dusit International’s four key pillars: Service, Locality, Well-being, and Sustainability. These principles are embedded in every guest experience, from personalized service to the hotel’s focus on environmental stewardship.
“By integrating sustainability into the hotel’s design and operations, we are not only reducing our environmental footprint but also ensuring that the new Dusit Thani Bangkok serves as a role model for future developments,” said Ms Suthumpun. “The hotel is designed to celebrate Thai culture in a way that feels authentic and modern, with sustainability at the core of everything we do.”
The original hotel’s Benjarong Thai Restaurant, known for its iconic pillars and intricate teak ceiling, has been meticulously preserved and reinstalled in the new hotel’s lobby. This dedication to craftsmanship and preservation is evident throughout the property, ensuring that Dusit Thani Bangkok’s rich heritage inspires guests worldwide.
A New Landmark in the Heart of Bangkok
Beyond its luxurious guest rooms and state-of-the-art amenities, the new Dusit Thani Bangkok offers over 5,000 square meters of meeting and event space, including one of Bangkok’s largest grand ballrooms. The ballroom, with its eight-meter-high ceiling and floor-to-ceiling windows, provides a dramatic backdrop for events and offers panoramic views of Lumpini Park.
As part of the more considerable Dusit Central Park development, the hotel is connected to an ultra-luxury residential tower, a state-of-the-art office building, and a high-end retail centre. The development also includes an 11,200-square-meter Roof Park, set to open in 2025, further cementing the area as one of Bangkok’s premier destinations.
The new Dusit Thani Bangkok bookings are now available through Dusit’s official website. With its grand reopening on the horizon, the hotel is poised to retake its place as a symbol of Thai hospitality, elegance, and innovation.
