Hilton - LogoHilton, a global leader in hospitality, has set the stage for a bold new chapter in its luxury portfolio across Asia Pacific, with plans to exceed 150 luxury properties in the coming years. This expansion marks a fourfold increase in its high-end hotel offerings compared to the end of 2023. With this significant growth, Hilton is poised to strengthen its presence in key destinations, from bustling metropolitan cities to serene luxury resorts, creating a unique global footprint.

Hilton’s iconic luxury brands, Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, and LXR Hotels & Resorts are at the forefront of this rapid expansion. Furthermore, a new, exclusive partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World has added more distinctive properties to Hilton’s impressive collection. This strategic move bolsters Hilton’s presence in the region, offering discerning travellers unparalleled options in cities like Tokyo, Shanghai, and Jaipur and more remote destinations such as Bhutan and the Maldives.

According to Alan Watts, President of Asia Pacific at Hilton, “The demand for our luxury brands continues to accelerate, driven by a surge in owners and developers seeking trusted partners in premium locations across Asia Pacific. From Tokyo to the Maldives, and Shanghai to Jaipur, our luxury brands are well-positioned to meet the significant opportunity that the region offers.”

A Surge in Signings and Openings in the Luxury Segment

Hilton’s aggressive expansion strategy is already taking shape with the signing of prestigious properties like the Waldorf Astoria Jaipur Conrad Jaipur in India and Conrad Yokohama in Japan. This is just the beginning. Over the next two years, the brand will open seven Waldorf Astoria properties in major cities, including Osaka, Kuala Lumpur, Sydney, Shanghai, Tokyo, Xi’an, and Hanoi. Meanwhile, Conrad Hotels & Resorts continues its growth trajectory with new properties in China’s critical markets like Xi’an, Chengdu, Nanjing, and Nagoya in Japan.

Adding distinctive small luxury hotel properties such as Lanson Place Causeway Bay in Hong Kong and Gangtey Lodge in Bhutan further demonstrates this momentum. These unique offerings will complement Hilton’s existing luxury portfolio and enhance its ability to cater to a growing market of luxury travellers seeking bespoke experiences.

Clarence Tan, Senior Vice President of Development for Asia Pacific at Hilton, elaborated on this rapid growth: “Waldorf Astoria will more than double its presence in Asia Pacific over the next few years, expanding from six to 13 hotels. We are also set to add 21 more Conrad Hotels & Resorts to our current 27. Our growth reflects strong owner confidence in our brands and our ability to deliver exceptional experiences in some of the world’s most sought-after locations.”

Transformational Trends Fueling Growth in Luxury Travel

The meteoric rise of Hilton’s luxury portfolio is a direct response to shifting consumer behaviour in the Asia Pacific. Hilton’s 2024 GenerAsian Travelers report reveals that most Asian consumers increasingly prioritise travel over other purchases, with many planning to spend more on travel in the coming years. This trend is spurring demand for luxury experiences that offer more than just accommodation. Today’s travellers seek transformative experiences that blend wellness, culture, and gastronomy into unforgettable journeys.

Hilton is at the forefront of meeting these evolving demands by integrating innovative wellness concepts, curated dining experiences, and deep connections to art and culture into its luxury offerings. The GenerAsian Travelers report further highlights that 77% of respondents from China, India, Japan, and Singapore wish to explore their heritage through travel. In comparison, 88% ranked sampling local and traditional cuisine as their top priority.

Commenting on these shifting dynamics, Candice D’Cruz, Vice President of Luxury Brands at Hilton Asia Pacific, said, “We are witnessing a fascinating blend of trends in Asia Pacific. Travelers today are on a journey of self-discovery, seeking authentic, hyper-personalized experiences that provide both personal growth and sustainable connections to their environment. Our luxury brands are designed to surprise, delight, and inspire by offering cutting-edge experiences that tap into these evolving expectations.”

Expanding Hilton’s Global Luxury Vision

Hilton’s global luxury strategy goes beyond Asia Pacific. The company has broadened its luxury offerings with the recent addition of NoMad, a boutique brand known for its modern, sophisticated aesthetic. Furthermore, Signia by Hilton has been introduced as an upscale brand focused on meetings and events, providing guests with a dynamic atmosphere infused with approachable luxury.

Hilton’s partnership with Small Luxury Hotels of the World is also part of this larger vision. These boutique properties cater to discerning travellers looking for unique, high-end experiences that cannot be found anywhere else. This partnership is set to play a crucial role in Hilton’s future expansion, bringing even more exceptional destinations into its luxury fold.

Additionally, Hilton has launched Hilton for Luxury, an exclusive global luxury travel advisor program designed to elevate the guest experience. Formerly known as Impresario, the program offers enhanced connectivity through a dedicated website, exclusive offers, and a team of on-property ambassadors to ensure every guest receives the highest personalized service. This initiative further cements Hilton’s commitment to being a global leader in luxury hospitality.

Milestones on the Path to 8,000 Hotels Worldwide

Hilton’s expansion in Asia Pacific is part of a broader growth strategy that has seen the brand achieve monumental milestones in recent years. As of 2024, Hilton has surpassed 8,000 hotels worldwide, a remarkable feat just two years after reaching its 7,000th property. Organic growth and strategic acquisitions, such as Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Autocamp, drive this rapid expansion.

Kevin Jacobs, Hilton’s Chief Financial Officer and President of Global Development, commented on this milestone, “2024 has been a transformative year for Hilton. Our strategic partnerships, acquisitions, and organic brand growth have positioned us as a dominant force in global hospitality. We’re excited about the opportunities ahead and our continued ability to bring the light and warmth of Hilton hospitality to every corner of the world.”

As Hilton continues to scale new heights, its luxury brands are set to play a key role in shaping the future of travel. With a clear focus on delivering world-class experiences and expanding into new markets, Hilton is well on its way to cementing its status as a global leader in luxury hospitality.
