Welcome to The Guest House.Vienna is one of the world’s most charming travel destinations. It prides itself on preserving its grand history as the capital of a once vast empire. By current world standards, Vienna is now a comparatively small city, which makes it a small city with big-city infrastructure and a very hip vibe.

The Guest House, therefore, is the perfect embodiment of Vienna in the 21st century.  With only 39 rooms, The Guest House is a

small property that is big on quality.  Behind the unusual façade of this splendid hotel are contemporary interiors well suited to the needs of today’s sophisticated travellers.  The stylish furniture and decor found in The Guest House’s spacious rooms and suites provide a perfect complement to the ‘Haus’ itself and an architectural counterpoint to Vienna’s historical buildings seen through the windows of the hotel’s upper floors, where cosy window alcoves are ideal for lounging with a good book (thoughtfully provided) or taking a catnap after a day out seeing some of the city’s many sights.

Appropriately named, The Guest House conveys a feeling of being a guest in a friend’s country house thanks to the abundant greenery facing the hotel despite its urban location.  Ideally situated across a small park from the Albertina Museum and a block away from the Vienna Opera House, The Guest House is also only a few minutes walk to Graben and the main pedestrian shopping area, the Imperial Palace, the Spanish Riding School, the Austrian National Library, and myriad other sights to be seen, including the Dorotheum auction house around the corner that is almost a museum in itself and well worth a visit for potential souvenirs since items on display in the galleries can be purchased at a fixed price.

At The Guest House, the casual luxury ambience belies the staff’s polished professionalism, shining lights in an already bright picture. Informal, though, does not mean inattentive. Under the exuberant leadership of General Manager Manfred Stallmajer, The Guest House’s staff personifies thoughtful hospitality. Whether working at the front desk, in the restaurant, or the housekeeping department, the staff are exemplary in their dedication to the highest standard of service.

The excellent brasserie at The Guest House embraces the same marriage of quality and service as the hotel.  One of Vienna’s chic dining spots, the brasserie’s outdoor terrace facing the park is an ideal place to start the day no matter what the hour; breakfast is served until a very reasonable 6 pm, at which time the day menu is substituted with the night menu, equally appealing in its array of dishes innovatively prepared with the best of locally sourced ingredients which themselves reflect the general excellence of Austrian produce.  Accompanying the tasty food are Austria’s outstanding wines; rather generously, four bottles of Austrian wines (two red, two white, along with beer and soft drinks) await guests in the minibars of The Guest House’s rooms, all compliments of the house.  The wine can be brought down to the restaurant to be enjoyed with meals, though a full wine menu is also available.

Further enhancing its position as a leader in modern-day Viennese hospitality, The Guest House maintains an extremely advanced policy on sustainability. It uses recycled products wherever possible and reduces waste to leave a lighter footprint on the planet. This is commendable.

Having yet again topped the annual poll of the world’s best places to live, Vienna knows no limit in providing visitors with stimulating experiences in a beautiful environment.  The same can be said about The Guest House.
