The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) recently wrapped up two dynamic educational and networking events for travel agents at Doltone House Hyde Park in Sydney, and at Pullman King George Square in Brisbane. Both events were sold out shortly after registration opened, attracting around 225 attendees across both events. Featuring an impressive lineup of 40 leading Japanese suppliers at each location, these gatherings provided in-depth insights into Japan’s offerings. For the first time, JNTO also arranged an exclusive hour for a select group of VIPs to engage in one-on-one discussions with suppliers, aiming to boost product knowledge and marketing efforts within the Australian market.
The events commenced with a welcome from the JNTO Executive team, followed by a brief address from the Consulate General. Harriett Bougher, JNTO Business Development Manager, updated attendees on JNTO’s activities and highlighted Japan’s current popularity among Australian travellers with a record 505,000 Australian visitors from January to June this year alone.
During the events, agents participated in three scheduled 10-minute appointments, allowing them to engage directly with suppliers and destinations. Ample networking time provided additional opportunities for agents to connect with all suppliers and enhance their product knowledge.
Entertainment included a traditional karate demonstration by local groups, featuring board-breaking and insights into the art form. In Brisbane, Lawson Dibb from Linkd Tourism joined the demonstration, impressing the audience with his karate skills.
Both events featured prize giveaways, including accommodation stays, traditional crafts, and Japanese spirits. Event organizers, Linkd Tourism, successfully orchestrated both evenings. The enthusiasm for learning about Japanese culture and experiences was high.
