2023_LSH_NP_Queenston Chapel_1_EDITED HiResNiagara Parks is proud to present its 2024 Coast to Coast Literary Series: Canada’s Survivalist Women. All are welcome to attend this engaging and interactive reading series that celebrates the published works of an exceptional selection of female Canadian authors, hosted at the homestead of Canada’s most famous heroine, Laura Secord.

The special four-part event, taking place on selected dates from September to December, features an inspired lineup of literary women:

  1. Sept 26, 2024 – Shelley Wood, The Leap Year Gene
  2. Oct 17, 2024 – Dr. Caroline Cauchi, The Queen of the Mist
  3. Nov 15, 2024 – Cheryl Isaacs, The Unfinished
  4. Dec 12, 2024 – Hannah Mary McKinnon, Only One Survives

Kicking off the series on September 26, Shelley Wood will be speaking about her second novel, The Leap Year Gene, exploring the tensions, losses, love and sense of duty that can bind families together or split them apart. On October 17, from internationally bestselling author Dr. Caroline Cauchi, The Queen of the Mist is a gripping new historical novel inspired by a true story about the bravest woman you’ve never heard of and the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel. On November 15, Indigenous author Cheryl Isaacs will share a chilling story tapping into her Kanien’kéha (Mohawk) culture as the black water reemerges with a hunger for souls in her debut novel, The Unfinished. Concluding the series on December 12, international bestselling author Hannah Mary McKinnon will send chills up your spine as a music group’s trip through an icy blizzard goes horrifyingly wrong in her novel, Only One Survives.

Each literary session will run from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Light refreshments will be served (Niagara wines available by the glass for purchase) in the Welcome Centre at the Laura Secord Homestead, before moving into the Queenston Chapel, a lovingly restored 1800s British Methodist Church. Tickets are $15 per session or $45 for access to the entire series. For more information, author biographies and to purchase tickets, please visit niagaraparks.com/coasttocoast.
