Sydney Place is set to be the heart of the city’s cultural scene this September as it joins the Sydney Fringe Festival with “Pop in the Place,” a vibrant celebration of Asian pop culture. Running throughout the month, this event promises to immerse visitors in the dynamic and colourful world of Asian music, food, and art.
The festivities peak on September 7th with a free evening concert featuring an exciting lineup of international artists. Headlining the event is MEMI from South Korea, known as the Queen of Guitar, whose electrifying performances are a must-see. Also performing is the soulful songstress LUNADIRA from Malaysia and the avant-garde club DJ B E N N from Taiwan, who will bring his unique sound to the stage.
Before the concert starts at 6:30 PM, visitors can explore the market stalls from 4 PM, offering an array of tantalizing treats and unique crafts. Hulu Hulu Tanghulu will be crafting their famous sugar-coated fruit skewers, while 15 Cenchi’s cheesecakes promise to be a sweet highlight. Lilliana Home & Gifts and various Korean beauty brands will showcase their products for those looking to shop. Adding to the pre-show excitement is a K-pop dance crew and battle, ensuring high energy.
Several Sydney Place retailers will extend their trading hours to offer delicious bites and drinks during the concert. Guests can enjoy the culinary offerings from Sil Bi Jip, BoBo Dumpling Bar, Sushi Yuzen, Burger Point, Malay Chinese, Yasaka Ramen, and Open Sesame.
As part of the month-long celebration, Sydney Place also offers visitors the chance to win a trip for two to Korea. Customers who spend $15 or more in a single transaction at participating retailers between September 1st and 30th will be entered into the draw.
