Melco Resorts & Entertainment will present the “2024 Lin Dan Cup Badminton Open” at Studio City in Macau in September 2024. This will be the first time that the event will take place in Macau since its launch.
“Melco Style Presents: 2024 Macau Lin Dan Cup Badminton Open” is hosted by Danhui (Guangzhou) Sports Culture Co., Ltd., co-hosted by Melco Resorts & Entertainment, supported by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and Yulin (Shenzhen) Sports Industry Co.,Ltd.. The event will effectively promote the development of badminton in Macau, enhance the overall development of Macau’s sporting industry, and contribute to its status as a “City of Sports”. By creating a sports branded event with Macau characteristics, the organizers hope to promote the development of Macau’s industries in sports, culture, tourism and more, demonstrating to the world the city’s strengths, with its conditions and capabilities to host world-class sporting events, while enhancing the visitor experience in Macau and further boosting the local tourism industry’s competitiveness.
Mr. Lin Dan said, “Ahead of the first ever National Games to be co-hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in the Greater Bay Area in 2025, it is of great significance to be hosting the event in Macau. This event is scheduled to take place at Studio City, Macau in the second half of 2024. The competition will be held at the Studio City Event Center and will attract badminton players from all over the world to congregate in Macau.”

Lin Dan is a two-time Olympic gold medalist, winning in 2008 and 2012. He has won 20 world championships in his professional career and is the only badminton player in the word to achieve Two Grand Slams. In 2023, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) announced that Lin Dan would be inducted into its Hall of Fame. Lin Dan has been promoting the development of badminton since his retirement, with the launch of the “Lin Dan Cup” being a major component of such initiatives. Its purpose is to promote and publicize badminton, encourage the exchange and enhancement of technical developments in the sport, establish a global platform for those who enjoy badminton, and to offer strength to young talent through the provision of role models.
Since 2020, the “Lin Dan Cup” has been hosted at 8 stops including Shenzhen’s Baoan District, Hunan’s Chenzhou, and Xinchang County in Zhejiang. Through its expansion, the event has successfully attracted the participation of close to 1,000 international players from China, Malaysia, Thailand, United Kingdom, Canada and other countries and regions, and has become a key event among domestic and global badminton circles, successfully enhancing the internationalization of badminton. Further to opening a new path for the sport’s development, the event provides increased opportunities for badminton fans around the world to enjoy the sport.
The forthcoming “Lin Dan Cup Badminton Open” will feature a Men’s Singles event. The competition will comprise 48 Men’s Singles, and registration will take place on August 13. The champion’s winning prize will a record of up to RMB 300,000. The event’s official launch will take place on September 14 and 15 at Studio City Event Center. Tickets will be on sale from August 23 via Studio City’s official website, with prices starting from MOP 80.
