Oktoberfest is returning to Hobart for a weekend over 200 years in the making. In The Hanging Garden will be transformed into a pop-up Bavarian bier halle, featuring German beer on tap, food stalls, live music and traditional games—all within the spacious and atmospheric Cathedral. In The Hanging Garden Events Producer Melanie Price said, “We’re really excited to bring the energy of Munich’s famous beer halls to Hobart, so expect to see all the things people love about Oktoberfest packed into our event”.
Celebrating throughout the weekend of Friday 18 to Sunday 20 Oktober, four sessions will take place over three days: 5—9pm on Friday & Saturday and 12—4pm on Saturday & Sunday. Tickets go on sale this Friday at 10am.
The first ever Oktoberfest took place in Munich in 1810 and was a week-long celebration of the marriage of Prince Regent Ludwig and Princess Therese. The couple enjoyed the festivities so much that they decided it should be an annual event. Since then Oktoberfest has been embraced in many countries and is celebrated every year all around the world.
Oktoberfest at In The Hanging Garden will be everything visitors hope for from this much-loved festival, but with twists and turns that people have come to expect from this venue, operated by the team behind Dark Mofo.
German bier tap takeover: Enjoy a range of German beers in a branded glass bier stein (free to keep for every ticket holder).
Classic Food: Offerings will include bratwurst from Anju and schnitzels from Eden (with meat-free options), and fresh pretzels from the Garden Bar.
Live music: Music from local bands with a German twist.
Traditional games: Fun to take part in, hilarious to observe!
Dress code: Lederhosen and dirndl dress is encouraged but not essential!
