JAPAN Rail hit the headlines late last year for all the wrong reasons, with its JR Pass price increase of up to 60%, thus decreasing its value for travellers. Australasia’s premium global rail wholesaler, International Rail, listened to the trade and introduced Japan point-to-point tickets becoming the first Australian specialist to offer such e-tickets for Japanese point-to-point rail to the trade.
This year the company has gone a step forward by launching the new ‘Greater Tokyo Pass’, which will be available to purchase from August 1.
Starting from a very reasonable A$82, it offers five consecutive days of travel and is valid on Tokyo Metro Lines, the Keikyo Airport line to/from Haneda Airport to/from Shinagawa/Tokyo station and on the Narita Skyliner to/from Ueno to/from Narita Airport.
“This latest Japan Rail offering to the trade highlights the ease of booking products through our business, along with most of our e-tickets having QR codes that can be used at the gate, without the need of being delivered to hotel,” says owner and managing director, Jonathan Hume.
Hume commented, “We have had huge success selling Japanese point to point tickets since its introduction towards the end of last year. Most likely due to the benefit of having flexible and refundable tickets and the ability pre-allocate seats 37 days in advance for services to Nagano and Hakuba, for the upcoming ski season, which some of our competitors are unable to offer to travel advisors”.
This latest product highlights the convenience of International Rail as a one-stop solution for agents. The company has also introduced services to accommodate oversized luggage request (free of charge), seating request-for the perfect view of Mount Fuji, as well as Osaka metro cards and airport rail transfers from Narita and Osaka, assisting in a seamless transition to their accommodation.
