With predictions that one in ten cafes, restaurants or hotels are at risk of closing in the next 12 months, a leading hospitality platform and industry body have partnered to deliver training that can help keep doors open.

A recent report by Creditor Watch estimated 9.1 per cent of hospitality businesses are likely to fail due to inflation, rising interest rates and high energy bills driving up operating costs, while consumer spending has also taken a tumble.

Allara Global CEO Andrew Lewis says effective revenue management is key to ensuring cafes, restaurants and hotels successfully ride out tougher economic times.

“Allara Learning recently partnered with the Australian Revenue Management Association to launch a course on revenue and yield fundamentals to help navigate the current challenges,” Mr Lewis said.

“We encourage operators to adapt to the times. A change in menu, revised pricing, special offers, updated seating plans, or reduced opening hours can drive greater profitability and efficiency,” he said.

Mr Lewis said hospitality venues that consistently deliver exceptional guest experiences are also better equipped to withstand the economic challenges.

“Great service, a welcoming atmosphere, and excellent value for money are crucial to retaining and ensuring repeat business, whether you are a café, a bowling club or a five-star hotel,” he said.

Allara Global works with a range of clients from Illawarra Catholic Club to The American Hotel in Echuca and leading hospitality groups such as Lucas Group, Solotel, and Applejack.

“Big or small, operators recognise the link between well-trained staff and exceptional customer satisfaction, and during a cost-of-living crunch, it’s never been more important.”

Mr Lewis said demand from operators has also seen bespoke training content tailored to individual businesses.

“As well as fundamental training on customer service, compliance, floor skills, food safety and leadership, we can create bespoke courses for hospitality providers, that uniquely meets their needs,” he said.

“Agility and flexibility is what is needed to support the hospitality industry in hard economic times” he said.
