Korean Air Boeing 787-10Korean Air is making waves in the aviation industry by introducing its first Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner. Set to commence its inaugural flight from Seoul Incheon to Tokyo Narita on July 25, this next-generation aircraft promises to deliver a superior travel experience with cutting-edge technology, exceptional fuel efficiency, and reduced carbon emissions. The new Boeing 787-10 also marks the debut of Korean Air’s latest Prestige Class cabin interior, designed to offer business class passengers unmatched luxury and comfort.

Introducing the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner

The Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner is the largest model in the 787 series. With a fuselage length of 68.3 meters, it surpasses the 787-9 by approximately five meters. This added length enables the 787-10 to accommodate 15% more passengers and cargo, making it a significant upgrade in capacity and efficiency.

Engineered for enhanced efficiency and passenger comfort, the 787-10 boasts a fuselage made from carbon composite materials. These advanced materials reduce the aircraft’s weight, increase durability, and cut carbon emissions by over 20% compared to similarly sized aircraft. The wings, equipped with raked wingtips and the advanced GEnx-1B74/75 engines from General Electric, ensure optimal performance, improved takeoff and climb capabilities, and reduced noise.

With a maximum range of 11,175 kilometres, the 787-10 is tailored for short-haul and long-haul routes, offering flexibility and reliability for diverse travel demands. Korean Air’s 787-10 configuration includes 325 seats: 36 in Prestige Class and 289 in Economy Class.

The New Prestige Suites 2.0

Korean Air’s new Prestige Suites 2.0 sets a new standard in luxury air travel. Inspired by traditional Korean patterns and cultural aesthetics, the suite design features “Jogakbo” patchwork and interiors that echo the elegance of Joseon Dynasty porcelain and brassware. The cabin’s warm cream and gold hues, complemented by shades of charcoal and blue, create a refined and inviting atmosphere.

Each Prestige Suite is designed to provide passengers with a virtually independent space. The open-top design enhances a sense of openness while ensuring privacy. These seats fully recline to a flat 180 degrees, transforming into a bed that extends to 78 inches long. Passengers are guaranteed ample personal space with a seat pitch of 46 inches and a width of 21 inches.

Additional amenities include expanded personal space next to the armrest, a table for small items, an individual storage compartment, a wireless phone charger, dual 220V/110V outlets, and two high-speed USB-C ports. Prestige Class passengers can enjoy high-resolution 24-inch monitors with 4K resolution, Bluetooth audio support, and inflight Wi-Fi service.

Enhanced Economy Class

The economy class in the 787-10 is equally impressive. It features a 3-3-3 seat configuration with vibrant woven patterns and bold colours that create a lively atmosphere. The seats offer up to 120 degrees recline and adjustable headrests for optimal comfort. The seat pitch of 32 inches and width of 17.2 inches ensures a comfortable journey for all passengers.

Economy class passengers also benefit from high-resolution 13-inch monitors, approximately 2 inches larger than those on previous models, enhancing the inflight entertainment experience. Inflight Wi-Fi service is available throughout the cabin, ensuring connectivity for all.

Contributions from Korean Air’s Aerospace Division

Korean Air’s Aerospace Division has been crucial in developing the 787-10. Critical components, such as the aft body raked wingtips and flap support fairings, were manufactured in Busan. As a significant partner in Boeing’s 787 program since 2006, Korean Air has been instrumental in designing and producing this state-of-the-art aircraft.

Future Deployment and Strategic Routes

Korean Air plans to utilize the 787-10 on crucial trunk routes to maximize its range, new amenities, and fuel efficiency. Initially, the aircraft will be deployed on short-haul routes to ensure operational stability. Subsequent deployment will focus on long-haul routes, including the highly demanded Seoul Incheon-Vancouver route. Vancouver, a major gateway city in western Canada, attracts significant travel demand and transit traffic from Southeast Asia. Other high-demand routes to the west of the United States and Europe are also in consideration for the 787-10 deployment.

Korean Air’s introduction of the Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner represents a significant milestone in the aviation industry. With its advanced technology, superior fuel efficiency, and luxurious Prestige Class suites, the 787-10 is set to redefine the travel experience for business and economy class passengers alike. As Korean Air continues to innovate and expand its fleet, travellers can look forward to unparalleled comfort, efficiency, and sustainability on every journey.
