What’s on the “Horizon” after Yellowstone
As Utah celebrates 100 Years of Film in 2024, Oscar and Emmy winner Kevin Costner has released the first installment of his filmed in Utah, multi-chapter western, Horizon: An American Saga. After the phenomenal success of the drama series Yellowstone – with scenes filmed across the American West, including Utah – Salt Lake City’s Transportation Network has launched two new Yellowstone production tours (summer and winter). The guided day tours take set-jetting visitors to some of the iconic filming locations along Northern Utah’s Wasatch Mountain range, providing exclusive access to sites not available to the general public. Capitol Reef scenic drive to re-open for off-season
The scenic drive in Capitol Reef National Park, one of Utah’s Mighty 5® national parks, will reopen in Autumn 2024 after closing through the summer to complete a rehabilitation project. As Utah works to keep the state Forever Mighty, the preservation of its special places are priority. Unique to Capitol Reef are the heritage orchards (remnants of the pioneer community of Fruita settled in 1880) where visitors are welcome to pick the heirloom fruit at no cost. Local businesses in the nearby town of Torrey, such as Etta Place Cider and LGBTQ+-owned Color Ridge Farm & Creamery, also leverage the area’s fruit-growing prowess for their handmade products. As the gateway to Capitol Reef, Torrey is situated at 2,135 m (7,000 ft) offering visitors a cool escape from Southern Utah temperatures and access to Utah’s night skies, part of the state’s 25 internationally accredited dark sky parks and places.
