Grapevine, the Vintage Texas destination in between Dallas and Fort Worth, is welcoming its International Sister Cities to the 38th Annual GrapeFest® – A Texas Wine Experience, presented by Bank of the West. The annual festival celebrates Texas wines and wines from around the globe and takes place 12-15 September, 2024.
Experts from Barossa, Australia will conduct master wine classes and food and wine pairing workshops. The International Wine Experience will feature two wine valleys with rich history representing the Old World of Krems, Austria (circa 1452) and the New World of Barossa, Australia (circa 1844).
Wines from the Barossa Valley, Australia feature bold, fruit-forward flavours. Barossa Valley, at 372 metres above sea level, has a Mediterranean climate, but its transverse valleys and sloping hills create a wide range of microclimates. Temperatures range from very warm on the valley floors to progressively cooler at the higher altitudes making for excellent Shiraz and Grenache.
Wineries in the Wachau Valley in Krems, Austria, offer a traditional taste shaped by the region’s cooler climate and diverse soils. With an elevation of 228 metres, the Atlantic air brings cold winters and hot, dry summers. It produces wines like Grüner Veltliner and Riesling, known for their crisp acidity and mineral notes.
GrapeFest® will celebrate wines from these two regions and Texas when Grapevine’s Historic Main Street closes to traffic for four days in September. GrapeFest® features more than 70 food and artisan vendors and offers wine tastings including the People’s Choice Wine Tasting Classic – the largest consumer-judged wine competition in the Southwestern United States, live music, a carnival and midway, KidZone and more. Visitors also enjoy Main Street’s charming locally owned boutiques, celebrity-chef driven bistros and award-winning Texas winery tasting rooms.
Getting to Grapevine is easy with direct flights to DFW International Airport with Qantas and American Airlines. Once travellers arrive, they can clear customs in an average of 15 minutes and, from there, it takes ten minutes to get to their Grapevine hotel room. Grapevine also offers complimentary shuttle service during the festival and most days of the week.
