A polar-powered snowstorm has set in at Thredbo Resort thanks to a cold polar air mass heading north.

The storm rolled in yesterday afternoon, delivering 5cm of fresh snow so far, blizzard conditions, strong winds, and freezing temperatures.

The polar-powered storm isn’t done yet! Experts forecast that this low-pressure system will continue to deliver lots more fresh snow to Thredbo over the next two weeks. Mountain Watch is calling for up to 59cm over the next 7 days, The Bureau of Meteorology says 70cm+ and Snowatch is predicting up to 82cm over the next 14 days.

The storm’s subzero temperatures are also ideal for snowmaking operations, allowing Thredbo’s snowmaking crew to fire up 195 snowmaking guns for over 13 hours last night. The combined force of fresh snow from mother nature and the artificial snowmaking ensures the best possible outcome for skiers and snowboarders this winter.

A dusting of snow fell all the way down to the village overnight and this morning, guests awoke to a beautiful wintery scene.

The snowfall timing couldn’t be better for families with the second week of the NSW school holidays beginning today.

The forecast is getting skiers and snowboarders excited to ride fresh powder and explore new terrain in the coming weeks.
