Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2023 was awarded Best Sports Event of the Year in the Community and Mass Participation Category at the 2024 Singapore Sports Awards (SSA) held last night. The IRONMAN Group, organisers of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon, accepted the award at a star-studded presentation ceremony among Singapore’s sporting elites.

Organised by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC) and Sport Singapore (SportSG), the SSA is an annual award that celebrates the best of sports in Singapore, with the selection committee chaired by the President of the SNOC.

This is the sixth time SCSM has won the Best Sports Event of the Year since the inception of the SSA in 2012, having claimed the accolade in 2023, 2020, 2018, 2017 and 2013.

SCSM 2023 saw more than 44,000 participants, including over 8,000 international runners, race the streets of Singapore across three days and five event categories, including the marathon and half marathon.

SCSM 2023 featured participants from over 70 countries, including elite athletes, passionate runners, and first-timers, race across five events, including the marathon and half marathon. The total distance clocked by runners amounted to more than 768,800km, equivalent to cover the distance to the moon and back. The event also featured a series of shorter races, including the 10km, 5km, and Kids Dash, ensuring an inclusive event that welcomed runners of all ages and abilities.

Speaking on the win, Santoz Kumar, General Manager of Singapore for The IRONMAN Group said, “We are thrilled to be recognised for this prestigious award once again, a true testament to the unity, determination and passion of the running community and all of those involved in the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon. We would like to thank our runners, sponsors and partners for their continued support and making last year’s race an incredible success.

“This award win will give race participants the confidence that they’ll have a great race with us this December with public entries opening today for the November 29 to December 1 event,” he said.

SCSM 2024’s three-day event will kick off with the Kids Dash on Friday 29 November, followed by the 5 km and 10 km run on Saturday 30 November, while the half marathon and marathon categories will flag off on Sunday 1 December, with Ekiden teams running alongside the marathoners.

SCSM 2024 will see the re-introduction of the Ekiden Race, adding a new layer of excitement and teamwork to this year’s edition. In the Ekiden Race, teams of five runners will take turns to complete sections of the marathon course, passing a sash to the next runner at designated transition points.
