This milestone event was graced by prominent figures, including The Hon. Natalie Hutchins, Member of the Victorian Parliament and Minister for Jobs and Industry, Melbourne International Airport Chief of Aviation Jim Parashos, and Vietjet’s top executives, Vice Chairwoman Nguyen Thanh Ha and Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh.

The Melbourne-Hanoi route marks Vietjet’s sixth connection between Vietnam and Australia. It offers travellers two round trips weekly on Tuesdays and Saturdays using the state-of-the-art Airbus A330 aircraft. This new route is expected to enhance travel convenience and connectivity between Australia and Vietnam significantly.

Vietjet has rolled out an exclusive week-long promotion to celebrate this grand launch. Vietjet Vice President Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “Since our first flight to Australia in April 2023, Vietjet has been dedicated to expanding our network, connecting Australia’s five largest cities – Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide – with Ho Chi Minh City. The launch of the Melbourne-Hanoi route further underscores our commitment to providing quality services and meeting the demands of both local residents and tourists. We believe this new route will drive further growth for Vietjet in the Australian market, offering Victorian travelers exciting opportunities to explore Vietnam and our extensive network of 168 routes worldwide.”

Jim Parashos, Melbourne Airport’s Chief of Aviation, highlighted the significant growth in the Vietnamese market, one of the positive outcomes following the pandemic. “The new air services agreements negotiated by the federal government have facilitated capacity ahead of demand, enabling tremendous growth in the Vietnamese market. This increase in competition and capacity benefits passengers with cheaper fares and provides exporters access to high-value markets. Vietnam is a key trading partner for Australia, and Melbourne Airport sees nearly three million tonnes of local products being exported to Vietnam annually,” Parashos stated.

Parashos also emphasized that Vietjet’s new service will complement its five-times-a-week flights to Ho Chi Minh City, offering Victorians enhanced connections within Vietnam and other Asian destinations. He added, “We anticipate strong two-way demand for this service, with Vietnam being among our top ten outbound destinations. The robust trade, business, and leisure demand support this growth.”

Introducing the Melbourne-Hanoi route is poised to attract investments, boost tourism, facilitate overseas study, and create job opportunities in Victoria. It aligns with the state’s tourism recovery goals, aiming to reach pre-pandemic levels by 2025 and achieve a tourism revenue target of USD 53 billion and 111.8 million tourist arrivals by 2028.

Following this launch, Vietjet will introduce the Sydney-Hanoi route on June 8, 2024, further expanding its network. Vietjet operates 58 weekly flights between Australia and Vietnam, ensuring travellers have ample choices and flexibility.

Additionally, all Vietjet passengers enjoy free SkyCare travel insurance, covering health and medical expenses, flight-related issues such as delays and lost baggage, and 24/7 global medical and travel assistance.
