Rip Curl, the iconic surf brand, is thrilled to announce the return of the Rip Curl Virtual Pro presented by Western Australia, an innovative surfing competition open to all Rip Curl GPS watch owners. This year, surfers globally can actively take part in the competition running from May 25 to May 30 2024. Participants will be in the running for a trip of a lifetime to the stunning Margaret River Region in Western Australia, for the winner and three mates.
The Rip Curl Virtual Pro, is a unique opportunity for surfers of all levels to compete in one of the largest global surf contests by surfing their local breaks. Surfers simply need to log their sessions using the Rip Curl SearchGPS Surf Watch and the SearchGPS app between May 25 and May 30, 2024. Rip Curl will track every surf session and analyse the data using the Rip Curl SearchGPS Surf Watch. Surfers are scored in real-time based on three key criteria: wave length, wave speed, and number of waves surfed.
The Rip Curl Virtual Pro is possible due to Rip Curl’s leading innovative technology, allowing surfers across the world the ability to plan, capture, and relive their surfing activity (privately or with friends) on their smartphone devices.
James Taylor, Head of Brand and Marketing at Rip Curl said “We are excited to bring back the Rip Curl Virtual Pro, a competition that celebrates our community of surfers and the innovative technology of our SearchGPS watch. This year, we’re inviting surfers to actively participate and track their progress for the chance to win this dream prize to Western Australia’s indulgent Margaret River Region.”
Rip Curl launched the first-ever Virtual Pro competition in 2023 which came as a surprise to owners of a Rip Curl Search GPS Watch, who didn’t even know they were part of the competition.
Last year’s winner Nick Cashin scored an epic trip to Fiji with three of his mates. “It has been almost a year and I still don’t have words to describe the surrealness of that whole experience. How do you describe your childhood dream becoming a reality? I felt like any minute, any wipeout, surely I would wake back up again. Although I never did! I actually got the call, out of the blue, Rip Curl took me on The Search!” said Cashin.
