This decision underscores the company’s vision to strengthen its expanding operations across New Zealand and Australia by harnessing Coombes’ innovative leadership and extensive expertise.

Though often asked if he would return to the travel industry, he confessed that House of Travel was the only brand he would consider.

“I can’t express how excited I am to return to an industry I am so passionate about,” said Coombes. “I have always respected House of Travel and Chris Paulsen’s vision as its founder. This opportunity could not have been better timed. House of Travel has a phenomenal reputation for its strong partnerships and customer-centric focus. It’s a proudly New Zealand-owned company with a fantastic team culture, travel expertise, and successful owner-operator models across retail, corporate, broker, and digital channels in both New Zealand and Australia.”

The travel industry has warmly welcomed the announcement, recognising House of Travel’s commitment to staying ahead in a rapidly evolving sector. Coombes’ appointment signals the brand’s focus on innovation and excellence. With his expertise, House of Travel aims to build on its legacy and deliver value to its partners, employees, and customers.

Coombes sees this new era as an opportunity to reshape how the travel sector embraces change and technology while maintaining the fundamental human touch that House of Travel is known for. “Consumers realized through Covid how essential travel agents and a trusted brand can be,” he stated. “It’s an exciting time to be in travel, and I’m eager to contribute to this thriving business.”

The company looks forward to benefiting from Coombes’ strategic vision as he prepares to guide House of Travel toward sustained growth and unparalleled service in the years to come.
