Routes logoThe bustling city of Aarhus, Denmark, is set to host the pivotal Routes Europe 2024 summit next week, from April 22 to 24. Now in its 17th year, this event promises to be a cornerstone for defining the future of air connectivity across Europe, bringing together a record number of industry leaders to foster growth and innovation in the aviation sector.

Routes Europe 2024 will welcome over 1,000 top decision-makers from airlines, airports, and tourism, all converging to strategize on expanding air service development. The assembly will include vice presidents and network planning heads from more than 100 prominent and burgeoning airlines, including Air France, British Airways, and Turkish Airlines, alongside notable out-of-region carriers like Air Canada and American Airlines. This year’s extensive meeting schedule is poised to break previous records, with participants engaging in over 4,500 strategic discussions to unveil new route opportunities.

Hosted by Aarhus Airport and Visit Aarhus, the summit provides a unique platform for these key industry players. Aarhus Airport, recently revamped with a new terminal and an in-airport hotel, offers swift access to Denmark’s vibrant second-largest city. Delegates can expect to conduct business and immerse themselves in the city’s cosmopolitan allure, featuring shopping boulevards, world-class museums, and internationally acclaimed tourist attractions.

A highlight of the conference will be the insights shared by Anko Van Der Werff, CEO of SAS Scandinavian Airlines, who will outline the transformative strategies propelling SAS forward. The conference will also delve into critical industry themes such as consolidation, sustainability, and operational stability, with insights from Ourania Georgoutsakou, Managing Director of Airlines for Europe (A4E), and Michael Stanton-Geddes, Director of Economics & Competition for ACI Europe.

Steven Small, director of Routes, emphasized the summit’s significance in the current climate: “Route development has perhaps become more important than ever been, with airlines scrutinizing opportunities more carefully than ever before. Routes Europe continues to play a vital role in this process, providing a meeting place for airline decision makers to negotiate new and existing air services with their airport and destination partners.”

Aarhus Airport’s CEO, Lotta Sandsgaard, also highlighted the event’s strategic importance for the city: “This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to bring airline, airport, and tourism strategists from around the world to our fantastic and fast-growing city and showcase our destination to the most important decision-makers in the business.”

As Routes Europe prepares to open its doors, the anticipation is palpable. This summit’s outcomes will influence the trajectories of the airlines and airports involved and significantly impact the broader economic landscape of European air travel.
