April 5 will see the Los Angeles-Anaheim Angels baseball team come face to face with the Boston Red Sox in the Home Opener game for the 2024 Major League Baseball (MLB) season.
Over the course of the season, the Angels will play a total of 162 games, with approximately half of these to take place at Angel Stadium – just a short 10-minute drive from the Disneyland Resort in California. The season will run from April until October, providing plenty of opportunity for Australian travellers to soak up the vibe of America’s favourite pastime during a visit to Anaheim.
The new season is just the start of what is going to be a busy year of anniversaries, special events, and limited time experiences taking place in Anaheim throughout the remainder of 2024.
Attractions
Over at the Disneyland Resort, a “Galaxy Far, Far, Away” will be closer than ever when Season of the Force returns to Disneyland Park on April 5. The limited time celebration of all things Star Wars will run until June 2 and will feature the return of the popular Hyperspace Mountain attraction; new adventures aboard Star Tours – The Adventures Continue inspired by some of the new Disney+ Star Wars series, Ahsoka, Andor and The Mandalorian; and a unique new way to view the stunning Disneyland Resort Fireworks display from Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. “Fire of the Rising Moons” will include selections from composer John William’s iconic film scores and can be enjoyed from multiple areas of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge on select nights throughout the Season of the Force celebrations.
Later in the month, Pixar Fest will also return to the Disneyland Resort bringing guests together for a celebration of friendship and beyond between April 26 and August 4, 2024. The colourful limited time offering will see the debut of an all-new parade – “Better Together: A Pixar Pals Celebration!” at Disney California Adventure Park, along with the return of the popular “Together Forever – A Pixar Nighttime Spectacular” with all-new scenes at Disneyland Park.
Conventions
For those immersed in the digital realm, VidCon makes its comeback on June 26 – 29 to the Anaheim Convention Center. This premier event brings together online content creators, industry professionals, and fans for a unique celebration of digital creativity. From meet-and-greets to workshops and performances, VidCon offers a platform for networking, learning and entertainment, unlike any other.
In August, the ever-popular celebration of all things Disney and beyond – D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event – will return to both the Anaheim Convention Center and a number of areas around Anaheim, including the Honda Center, for the biggest Expo in the company’s history. While the Expo itself may already be sold-out, just being in Anaheim over these dates to see Disney fans Cosplay, is sure to make for some of the best people watching you’ll ever experience.
Festivals
For over 60 years, the neighbouring city of Garden Grove has brought the community together in celebration of the area’s prolific strawberry fields. Taking place on May 24 – 27, the legendary Strawberry Festival promises a parade with festive floats, rides, contests, games, entertainment, and strawberry themed foods for the whole family to enjoy.
One of the largest Japanese festivals in Orange County returns to the Anaheim STC Gardenwalk on June 21 – 23. Taste of Japan will offer several authentic Japanese foods, a beer & sake experience, pop culture, anime, cosplay, live entertainment, merchandise and much more for tourists and residents to enjoy.
Culinary
Join in celebrating a milestone with the Anaheim Packing House as it rings in its 10th anniversary as Orange County’s Original Food Hall on May 31. Now home to nearly 30 culinary artisans, the two-story foodie paradise has become a community hub over the last decade, hosting weekly live music, monthly markets, and community classes.
“The warmer months in Anaheim offer a perfect blend of excitement, diversity, and community spirit,” said Christina Dawson, Senior Vice President of Operations, Visit Anaheim. “From world-class entertainment to cultural celebrations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. We look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far to experience the magic of Anaheim this spring and summer.”
