MUNDI MUNDI BASH 2023 – SATURDAY 19.08.2023 – Matt Williams – WEB RES-1039
The Outback Music Festival Group have today announced that they will stage the biggest ever Bash event this August when the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash kicks off on the iconic Outback plains outside Silverton, NSW.
A record 14,000 festival goers will hit the road to the spectacular red earth site to take in a line-up of Aussie music legends including James Reyne, Jon Stevens, The Living End, Ian Moss, Daryl Braithwaite, Diesel, Tim Finn, Baby Animals, Vanessa Amorosi, Mark Seymour, The Rolling Stones Revue (starring Adalita, Phil Jamison, Tex Perkins & Tim Rogers), Richard Clapton, Casey Barnes, Bjorn Again, Chocolate Starfish – Bat Out of Hell, Pierce Brothers, Shane Howard, Ash Grunwald, Fanny Lumsden, Furnace & the Fundamentals, Sarah McLeod, Hayley Mary, Mundi Mundi Bash Band, Tha Boiz and Leroy Johnson & The Waterbag Band.
“We’re thrilled to announce that the 3 day camping based event is on the verge of selling out – we only have a few hundred tickets left and they’re selling fast so we know we’re definitely going to reach the milestone number of 14,000. Last year we set new records for our event by having 12,250 at the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash and 11,000 at the Birdsville Big Red Bash. And this year we’ve smashed that again.
Put in context, the population of Broken Hill sits at just over 17,000 so we’ll be creating a satellite township of nearly equal size out on the Mundi Mundi Plains. We have the space and have invested in infrastructure – and our concert space is already one of the biggest in Australia – so it’s going to be an epic party in the Outback,” said Festival owner and Managing Director of the Outback Music Festival Group Greg Donovan.
“Given the tough environment regional festivals are working in I’m incredibly grateful that our festival goers have stayed loyal and chosen to join us for a bucket list experience in the Outback. We’re now four events and three years into staging the Bash on the Mundi Mundi site and this will be the 11th year for the Birdsville Big Red Bash so we’ve shown everyone what we can do and they’re responding to that shared experience,” added Greg Donovan.

MUNDI MUNDI BASH 2023 – FRIDAY 18.08.2023 – Matt Williams – WEB RES-1093
The Birdsville Big Red Bash has bragging rights of being the world’s most remote music festival, while the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash is the biggest event ever staged in Outback NSW.
“Our events are run on two of the most iconic Outback locations in Australia. There’s no other festival experience like it in Australia, or the world. Add to that a stacked all-Aussie roster of amazing performers and world record breaking events and outback fun and we’ve hit upon a recipe that keeps festival goers coming back,” said Greg Donovan.
While the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash has grown in size, festival organisers have no plans to grow the Big Red Bash festival any further.
“We know that we’ve hit the sweet spot for the Big Red Bash numbers wise. Birdsville is a township of only 100 residents with limited infrastructure, and most of the Outback towns on the routes in are also small – there’s a definite limit on what they can manage in terms of travelers to the event. If we went any bigger we would crush these towns and their service providers – it’s a fine line between them being them being incredibly grateful for the millions of tourism dollars the Big Red Bash injects into these regions, and them then being unable to cope with the influx.
It would be irresponsible to go any bigger with that event – even though I’m sure we could sell more tickets. We’re all about delivering an awesome festival experience – and part of that is the journey to the event. With tickets numbers limited for the Big Red and a run on tickets expected after we sell out for the Mundi Mundi Bash anyone considering a trip to the Birdsville event should act fast,” said Greg Donovan.
Remaining tickets for the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash (August 15-17, 2024) are available at www.mundimundibash.com.au and tickets to the Birdsville Big Red Bash (July 2-4, 2024) are available at www.bigredbash.com.au
There are slight line-up differences between the two events with Tina Arena and Jon Stevens headlining the Birdsville Big Red Bash joined by an epic lineup of over 30 artists including Ian Moss, Colin Hay, Tim Finn, Diesel, Baby Animals, Vanessa Amorosi, Mark Seymour, Richard Clapton, Casey Barnes, Shane Howard, Pierce Brothers, Bjorn Again, Mi-Sex, Chocolate Starfish – Bat Out of Hell, The Rolling Stones Revue starring Phil Jamison, Tex Perkins and Tim Rogers, Furnace & the Fundamentals, Ash Grunwald, Fanny Lumdsen, Sarah McLeod, Hayley Mary, Steve Balbi and Amy Ryan.
Both the Broken Hill Mundi Mundi Bash and the Birdsville Big Red Bash are all-ages, dog-friendly camping events that run across three days. The festivals offer up a uniquely Australian adventure for families, grey nomads, camping and caravanning enthusiasts and intrepid travellers. Festival-goers can expect an exciting lineup of artists, bands and cover acts representing a slew of music genres from rock, pop, folk, country and more, guaranteeing something for everyone to kick up the dust to.
Off stage, the events also feature a wonderful wide-ranging program of outback activities – from a Nutbush City Limits World Record dance off attempts (the current record of 6,594 boot-scooters was set by the Mundi Mundi Bash in August 2023) to a Mad Max costume dress up world record attempt, sunrise yoga, dunny door painting, comedy and outdoor film screenings, scenic helicopter flights, camel rides and charity initiatives like the ‘Bashville Drag Race’ and ‘Mundi Undie Run’ – raising funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
The Big Blue Day will also be launched at the Mundi Mundi Bash in 2024 with both events attempting to smash the world record for the largest human image of a country. The newly created day was a highlight of the 2023 Big Red Bash, with a new world record set for the largest human image of a country with 5,467 participants dressed head to toe in blue.
While the event locations are remote, they are accessible by road. There is sealed road leading right up to the Mundi Mundi Bash event site and this year for the first time Big Red Bach festival goers can choose routes that see them traveling on under 15kms of unsealed road.
Both events are BYO alcohol for both the campsite and concert areas, and ticket holders are also permitted to bring their own food. There will also be a large range of food vendors selling both hot and cold food and non-alcoholic beverages, and dog-friendly camping and concert areas.
