The first ‘glamping’ property in Australia – Paperbark Camp on the NSW South Coast – has turned 25 and to celebrate the milestone birthday of the renowned, bush-luxe retreat, Paperbark Camp is offering an extra third night’s stay free when booking a special, two-night birthday weekend package this April that includes a sumptuous, under-the-stars banquet.
The deluxe eco retreat at Jervis Bay opened on April 27, 1999, as the brainchild of Sydney couple Jeremy and Irena Hutchings who were inspired by the safari tents they saw on an African holiday. A quarter of a century on, Paperbark Camp is as popular with lovers of nature and romance than ever and continues to be at the forefront of ecotourism and luxury camping in Australia.
As the pioneers of glamping in Australia, the Hutchings family still owns the award-winning camp, which attracts guests from across Australia and around the world.
To mark the milestone birthday, Paperbark Camp will host a special 25th ‘Birthday Bush Banquet’ under the stars and amongst the whispering paperbarks on Saturday, April 27, 2024 – 25 years to the day since the camp was born. The long-table, native bush-inspired dinner will be curated by celebrated ex-Paperbark chef, Sarah Knights (Est., Quay, Automata) and current consulting chef Guy Turland (Est., Depot Bondi). Paired with wines, the indulgent feast is priced at $240 per person, including drinks and entertainment.

The banquet is also being offered as part of a new, live-it-up birthday weekend package offering two-nights’ accommodation on Friday April 26 and Saturday April 27, 2024, breakfast for two days, dinner in the camp’s Gunyah Restaurant on Friday, the outdoor Birthday Bush Banquet on the Saturday including drinks, a complimentary yoga session and use of bikes and canoes. The two-night stay is available from $2260 per couple, with an extra person sharing from $550 with all the inclusions.
And in a special birthday gift from Paperbark, anyone staying for the two-night weekend escape on April 26 and 27, can stay a third night for free on Sunday, April 28, 2024 – accommodation only, with meals available for purchase. The free-night offer is available until booked out.
Nestled in riverside bushland close to the sapphire waters of Jervis Bay, 2½ hours south of Sydney, Paperbark Camp offers a blend of sophistication and simplicity, with the five-star, elevated safari tents all offering bush-view tubs and indulgent day beds as well as polished hardwood flooring, double canvas roofs, outdoor deck seating and private open-air ensuites with premium natural toiletries where guests can enjoy nature while they bathe. The raised tents are camouflaged amongst wildlife-rich forest along the banks of Currambene Creek just outside Huskisson.
