Royal Davui Island Resort has taken out top honours at the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Award, winning GOLD in “Excellence in Food Tourism” and BRONZE in “Boutique Luxury” category.

The awards, which recognise excellence in tourism and hospitality across the region, were held at the Sheraton in Denarau on 17 February 2024.

Commenting on the win, resort owner and General Manager, Christopher Southwick, said he was thrilled to be recognised not only in the Boutique Luxury category, but for Excellence in Food Tourism, as the focus and quality of produce served to guests at the resort has been a key priority and passion project for the entire F&B team.

“Winning these awards is an incredible honour and a testament to the dedication and passion of our entire team. Being recognised for both our Boutique Luxury and Excellence in Food Tourism is especially gratifying, as we strive to create an intimate and luxurious experience for all of our guests, with a focus on fresh, local cuisine and of course, warm Fijian hospitality. These awards coincide perfectly with the start of an exciting new chapter for the resort as renovations are now well underway on all of our suites, which will provide our guests with an even more memorable experience to our beautiful island home,” said Christopher.

Scheduled for completion in June 2024, the million-dollar refurbishment encompasses every facet of the resort, from its exquisite villas to world-class dining and recreational facilities and will signify a new chapter in Royal Davui’s 20 year history of creating one-of-a-kind experiences.

The staged renovations will see the transformation of the iconic Banyan Bar & Restaurant, followed by the refurbishment of the resort’s luxurious villas, plunge pools and general spaces.

Highlights of the renovation include all-new dining, bar, and lounge furnishings at the Banyan Bar & Restaurant, featuring 3m wide cascading and custom-made rattan chandeliers, as well as a 3D custom artwork designed by owner, Christopher Southwick.

The new furnishings and designs promise to evoke a sense of tranquility and serenity, blending in and complementing the natural beauty of the island.

The villas, which all boast their own plunge pools (the only Fijian resort that can lay claim to this), will transform further allowing a seamless flow from indoor to out, with all new bedroom and living furniture, artwork and drapery and revitalised outdoor lounging, allowing guests to feel completely cocooned amongst their very own island oasis.

The resort’s main signature pool will receive all new pool lounges and cabanas, the grounds will be dotted with new sculptures as well as overgrown pots and foliage, allowing a harmonious connection with the stunning natural surroundings.

Christopher Southwick, Owner of Royal Davui Island Resort, said: “This refurbishment marks an exciting milestone in our ongoing mission to offer unparalleled and unforgettable experiences to our guests, many who we continue to welcome back year after year. Our vision is to create a tranquil sanctuary that not only celebrates our heritage, but the incredible beauty of the island and the archipelago which we’re part of, while providing all the modern comforts with heightened luxury. Given we are an adults-only retreat, our aim is to continue to facilitate convivial social spaces where our guests like to mingle of an afternoon, while also offering a private, intimate haven for guests to retreat to whenever they wish.”

“We’re excited to be embarking on this transformation, which comes at a time of us celebrating and recognising our 20 year anniversary, and which marks a significant evolution in our resort’s story. We remain deeply committed to delivering the same personalised attention and authentic Fijian spirit that our guests cherish, and we’re excited to unveil an elevated overall experience in the coming months,” he continued.

Unlike many other resorts in the area, Royal Davui Island Resort remains proudly Fijian owned and operated, with the owners on-site and personally welcoming and bidding farewell to every guest that grace its shores.
