Sustainable stays
Samoa has a number of sustainable and eco-conscious accommodations available. If you’re keen to embrace the Fa’a Samoa way of life, stay in a traditional beach fale, or embrace eco-conscious resorts.
● Taufua Beach Fales
○ Staying in fale accommodation is the perfect way to experience fa’a Samoa as Samoan people have for thousands of years. This laidback style of accommodation gets you as close to the ocean as it is possible to lay down your head and means that the soundtrack to your sleep is the hush of the ocean.
● Dave Parker Eco Lodge
○ In the lush hillside overlooking the town of Apai, the Dave Parker Eco Lodge offers an unique experience. The lodge uses the nearby natural resources to create environmentally friendly products and sources food sustainably for their guests. This stay invites visitors to become one with the natural wonders of Samoa.
● Salani Surf Resort
○ In the South Coast of Upolo, Salani Surf Resort is one of the islands’ most environmentally friendly resorts with a restaurant specialising in responsibly sourced food, solar power, and an encouraged plastic free environment.
Eat sustainably
Indulge in Samoa’s vibrant culinary scene with an abundance of fresh, locally grown produce showcased in organic cafes and restaurants.
● Nourish Cafe (Apia)
○ Nourish cafe promotes local cuisine and organic farming. The Samoan owners work with organic farmers to source ingredients to make healthy food for the local community and tourists.
● Legend Cafe (Apia)
○ Legend Taumeasina has built itself on the philosophy that food should be locally grown and nutritious, promoting Ocean-Farm-To-Table Cuisine. They are an American styled Smokehouse and have adapted their house-made sauces and chutneys to reference the tropical locale.
● Vailili Restaurant (Savai’i)
○ Vailili Restaurant offers fresh, local produce and simple full flavours with a dive into local culture. On Thursday nights, guests can dine at the themed buffet and enjoy a traditional fiafia cultural show, and on Sundays, you can take in a Polynesian BBQ.
Explore sustainability
Embark on sustainable explorations of Samoa’s natural wonders through eco-friendly tours, whether it’s a leisurely three-hour walk or an immersive three-day adventure. Whether your interests lie in swimming, diving, snorkelling, or surfing, Samoa’s breathtaking natural assets provide the ideal backdrop for sustainable adventure.
● Tafua Crater
○ Tafua Crater is located within the Tafua Peninsula Reserve and is ideal for bird watching. Natural history tours which are provided by Safua Tours usually take visitors to the top of the crater which provides magnificent views of neighbouring coastal villages.
● Mt Silisili
○ Explore Mt Silisili with a 2-3 day hike. Visitors wishing to get an early start on the hike may spend the night in the village and experience a glimpse of what it’s like to live with a Samoan family and experience true Samoan hospitality. The hike will take you through a lush rainforest, to a crater ridge covered in flora, and will end at ‘Mato o le Afi’, a volcano that erupted in 1902.
● Bike and kayak tours
○ For a unique perspective and to minimise your carbon footprint explore the beaches, villages and plantations of Samoa by bike or kayak down a mangrove stream and out into the lagoon with turtles.
