Michelin-Guide-2024

In a grand unveiling, the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) proudly announced the release of the highly anticipated MICHELIN Guide Thailand 2024. This edition marks a significant milestone in Thailand’s journey towards becoming a global gastronomic hotspot, featuring an impressive roster of 447 establishments. The guide spans multiple regions, including Bangkok, Phuket, Phangnga, Chiang Mai, Ayutthaya, Isan, and the newly added Ko Samui and Mainland Surat Thani.

TAT Governor, Ms. Thapanee Kiatphaibool, expressed immense pride in the continuous partnership with the MICHELIN Guide since 2018. “The MICHELIN Guide has played a pivotal role in enhancing Thailand’s reputation as a world-class culinary destination,” she stated. The guide’s influence extends beyond mere recognition, significantly contributing to the flourishing of Thailand’s tourism sector.

The 2024 edition is notable for its inclusivity and diversity, featuring establishments ranging from luxurious dining experiences to local culinary gems. Among them are seven two-starred MICHELIN restaurants (with two promotions from one star), 28 one-starred establishments (including three newcomers), 196 Bib Gourmand recipients, and 216 MICHELIN Selected eateries.

This year’s guide sees Ko Samui and Mainland Surat Thani making their debut, adding 23 new entries. It also celebrates the emergence of two new two-starred restaurants, Baan Tepa and Gaa, and introduces a MICHELIN Green Star – a testament to sustainable gastronomy – awarded to J’AIME by Jean-Michel Lorain.

Highlighting individual culinary talents, the guide has recognized several chefs and restaurant personalities for their exceptional contributions. These include Ms Chudaree ‘Tam’ Debhakam from Baan Tepa, who was honoured with the MICHELIN Young Chef Award, and Mr Witchupol “Nay” Charoensupaya from NAWA, who received the MICHELIN Opening of the Year Award. Ms. Louise Bourgeois from Chef’s Table was awarded for her exemplary service, and Mr. Thanakorn ‘Jay’ Bottorff from INDDEE was acknowledged for his expertise in wine selection.

The expansion of the MICHELIN Guide to cover more regions in Thailand aligns with TAT’s vision of promoting experience-based tourism. Food, one of Thailand’s “5F soft powers,” along with Film, Fashion, Fight, and Festivals, is crucial in enhancing the tourist experience. The guide encourages travellers to explore various dining experiences, from bustling city eateries to serene beachfront restaurants, making each meal a delight for the taste buds and a cherished memory.

Ms. Thapanee concluded her remarks by emphasizing the importance of gastronomy in enriching travel experiences. “The diverse culinary offerings listed in the MICHELIN Guide not only satisfy the palate but also create meaningful, heartwarming experiences for both local and international visitors,” she said.
