Wind Class Refresh takes inspiration from the sails, the sea, and a desire to foster connectionsWindstar Cruises, a trailblazer in boutique cruise experiences, has announced a groundbreaking, multi-million-dollar initiative to overhaul its three iconic Wind Class sailing ships. This ambitious project, poised to redefine luxury at sea, spotlights the 148-guest Wind Star and Wind Spirit, and the 342-guest Wind Surf.

Initiating this grand venture, the Wind Star has already embarked on the first phase of its transformation in Lisbon. Christopher Prelog, President of Windstar Cruises, shared his enthusiasm: “Our sailing ships hold a special place in the hearts of our guests. The experience of sailing is not just memorable but also imbued with a sense of freedom and romance, essential to every voyage.”

This extensive renovation plan, set to unfold over several years, is not merely a facelift. It’s a holistic reimagination of the cruising experience, ensuring that each yacht exudes contemporary elegance while preserving the intimate charm Windstar is known for. Stijn Creupelandt, Windstar’s vice president of hotel operations and product development, elaborates: “This initiative aims to rejuvenate our yachts’ spaces, fostering a serene, connected atmosphere tailored to the unique needs of an intimate sailing experience.”

The Wind Star’s current upgrades in Lisbon mark just the beginning. The project’s scope encompasses a sweeping redesign of public areas, including new layouts, furniture, and custom artwork. In addition, the guest staterooms, Premium Suites, and Owner’s Suites will see comprehensive refurbishments, featuring interactive televisions and revamped décor.

Fall 2023 will see Wind Star showcasing its newly redesigned lobby, now more spacious with additional seating and an expanded retail area. The lounge is being reimagined to encourage social connections, complete with a living room-like atmosphere. The World Spa by Windstar and the fitness centre are being redesigned with wellness in mind, boasting new equipment and a fresh colour palette. The pool deck, a voyage highlight, will feature an enlarged pool and jacuzzi, new furniture, and vibrant greenery, enhancing the ship’s festive ambience.

Wind Spirit and Wind Surf are scheduled to follow suit, with their respective renovations culminating in 2025 and 2026. This phased approach ensures that each yacht receives the attention to detail it deserves, enhancing every aspect of the guest experience.

Jessica Payne, Windstar’s manager of interior design, draws inspiration from classic and modern yacht architecture, infusing the designs with elements reminiscent of the sails, the sea, and the diverse destinations Windstar explores. “We aim to create an ambience akin to stepping onto a private yacht, but with the luxury and service of a boutique hotel,” Payne explains.

As Windstar Cruises embarks on this visionary journey, it reaffirms its commitment to offering unrivalled luxury and unforgettable experiences at sea. For more details on this exciting project and to experience the revamped luxury firsthand, visit www.windstarcruises.com.
