Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary has taken out the Queensland Tourism Industry Council ‘Major Tourist Attraction’ award for 2023 and been inducted in their prestigious Hall of Fame.
It’s the third consecutive year the iconic tourist attraction has won the award which recognises the outstanding achievements of the State’s tourism industry.
“This incredible achievement is a testament to the unwavering dedication and passion of our team,” said Travis Couch, General Manager of Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary.
“All of our Currumbin family have worked hard to get us here and it’s an honour to see our commitment to unforgettable wildlife experiences recognised in this way.”
“We’d also like to thank our supporters and visitors because without them this win wouldn’t be possible,” said Mr Couch.
The announcement comes as Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary unveils the largest new precinct at the park in its 75 year history.
Outback Springs was opened to the public on 6 December 2023 and sees the recreation of a traditional Queensland cattle station complete with gemstone panning, billy tea demonstrations and outback animal displays.
“This coming year we will welcome over half a million guests to the Sanctuary from all over the world and we want them to be able to experience life in the Queensland outback without having to leave the Gold Coast,” said Mr Couch.
“This has been a long time coming and we’re thrilled to welcome members and guests of all ages to this new precinct just in time for the busy holiday season,” he said.
The Queensland Tourism Awards have been operating for 38 years and are a submission and inspection-based program providing the opportunity to publicly acknowledge and showcase Queensland’s finest tourism operators.
The awards cover 31 categories ranging from attractions, events, tour and transport, accommodation, restaurants, culture, marketing and more.
