Once an untamed sheep farm established in 1802, Louth Island is situated just 10 minutes off the coast from Port Lincoln. What started as a personal project for owner and fierce protector, Che Metcalfe, has evolved into a two-part, anticipated 50-milliondollar commitment towards an exclusive island utopia and restoration project.
“When the opportunity of Louth Island came to light, I knew I couldn’t keep it all to myself. This stunning island had to be shared with the world”, says Metcalfe, whose entrepreneurial spirit stems from his background as co-founder of Uniti Group – a business that was later acquired for $3.7 billion.
For intrepid travellers keen to get an exclusive glimpse of this eco paradise, the prelude to the Rumi on Louth opening, Rumi Reveal, has officially launched today.
Aptly named, Rumi Reveal invites curious guests from all across Australia and around the globe to experience a taste of what to expect on the untouched island.
“We’re thrilled to be able to expand on this region’s incredible tourism offering and bolster national visitation with our immersive island experiences and accommodation offering”, Metcalfe said.
Metcalfe’s commitment towards the part resort, part restoration project has sustainability anchored into the heart of every decision: including to go off-grid. Rumi is 100% solar powered, with recycling and composting practices helping to preserve the island’s pristine nature. Even the signature dish at the onsite restaurant is freshly caught, just off the coast.
“What’s most important is making sure the development considers the ecology of the island. It’s not just about building a resort – it’s about committing to the protection and preservation of Louth Island, for years to come”, says Metcalfe.

Rumi Reveal day guests will enjoy wild and indulgent experiences on the island inclusive of kayak and fishing tours with beach picnics or BBQs, as well as full day experiences that include luxury transfers, island tours via buggy, Catamaran Odyssey cruising and a fresh and fabulous six course degustation at the onsite restaurant, Samphire.
For Rumi Reveal guests staying on-island, the two-night accommodation package grants access to one of five brand new accommodations on the Luxury Eco Resort, all inclusive of meals throughout their stay.
