Turkish Airlines, renowned for flying to more countries than any other airline, has added a new jewel to its crown with the launch of flights to Detroit. The airline’s 13th gateway in the United States promises to strengthen economic and cultural ties between Istanbul and Motor City.

As of November 15, 2023, Turkish Airlines will operate flights to Detroit three days a week, connecting Istanbul Airport with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. Just in time for the holiday season, starting December 25, 2023, the frequency will increase to four days a week. This strategic move boosts Turkish Airlines’ global network to an impressive 345 destinations and solidifies its presence in the United States, serving 13 key cities.

The inaugural flight to Detroit was greeted with a spectacular ceremonial water cannon salute at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport. This grand event drew distinguished guests, including local officials, Turkish Airlines executives, and aviation enthusiasts, who gathered to celebrate this significant milestone.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee of Turkish Airlines, expressed his enthusiasm during the ceremony, stating, “Today is a special day as we gather here to celebrate the inaugural flight of Turkish Airlines to the city of Detroit. We have brought two great cities, Istanbul and Detroit, closer together by initiating this direct flight. We’re thrilled to connect Istanbul and Detroit, creating opportunities for travel, business, and cultural exploration. As the national flag carrier of Türkiye, our beautiful country, we reach more countries than any other airline in the world. By adding new destinations to our ever-expanding network, such as Detroit, we continue to serve our primary mission of uniting people and cultures all around the globe.”
