Saveful App logoIn an era where household expenses are skyrocketing, a beacon of hope shines through for Australian families. The new, free-to-use app, Saveful, developed by the social enterprise Thankful, marks a significant stride towards economical and sustainable living. Collaborating with renowned chef and farmer Matt Moran, Thankful introduces an innovative platform designed to ease the burden of rising living costs while addressing the critical issue of food waste.

Saveful emerges as a response to the economic challenges faced by 80% of Australians. In a time where food wastage equates to discarding one in every five grocery bags, Saveful offers a practical solution. By reimagining the approach to meal preparation, the app helps households transform their kitchen stocks into thousands of potential dishes, catering to various budgets, tastes, and dietary needs.

The app’s unique ‘swipe right’ feature facilitates the discovery of recipes tailored to the ingredients already available in users’ kitchens. This reduces the frequency of grocery shopping trips and maximizes the utility of each food item. With the potential to save households between $2,000 and $3,000 annually, Saveful represents a financial tool and a lifestyle change.

Kim McDonnell, CEO of Saveful, expresses her excitement about the launch: “Saveful is not just an app; it’s a movement towards a more conscious and efficient way of living. By giving a new lease of life to food items often overlooked, we aim to delight Australian families’ taste buds and wallets.”

Matt Moran, Saveful’s Ambassador, echoes this sentiment, emphasizing the app’s role in promoting the consumption of fresh, seasonal produce. “It’s about maximizing our resources and teaching families the joy of cooking with less, yet creating more,” Moran notes.

Australian Federal Minister for the Environment and Water, Tanya Plibersek, highlights the environmental benefits of the initiative, pointing out that households play a crucial role in the country’s goal to halve food waste by 2030. “Through Saveful, families can become active participants in a larger, national effort to foster sustainability,” she comments.

Beyond recipe suggestions, Saveful offers a range of chef hacks, tips, and meal-planning strategies, all customized to individual household preferences. It also features a tracking system, allowing users to visualize their savings and contribution to reducing environmental impact.

The app is supported by producers, retailers, and government bodies, including Bega Group, Birds Eye, Goodman Fielder, Nestle, Qantas, Rabobank, and the Queensland Government. This collaboration underscores a collective commitment to sustainable practices and community welfare.

As part of its future integrations, Saveful will offer incentives through the Qantas Frequent Flyer program, rewarding users for their sustainable choices. Developed in partnership with venture studio Shadowboxer, Saveful is set to redefine the landscape of household management and food sustainability in Australia.
