This historic deal bolsters the airline’s fleet with 95 state-of-the-art planes and propels Dubai’s soaring ambitions in the international aviation sector.

Emirates, already a titan in the world of wide-body passenger aircraft, has now upped the ante with an order for an additional 55 Boeing 777-9s and 35 777-8s. This brings its total 777X orders to a formidable 205 units. Further complementing this move, Emirates has also inked a deal for 202 GE9X engines to power its new 777X fleet, raising its total order to 460 units.

This momentous occasion was marked by the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai; HH Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Deputy Prime Minister; and HH Sheikh Mansour bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council. HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airlines and Group, signed the agreements with key executives from Boeing and GE.

Emirates updates Boeing 787 Dreamliner order to 35 units: 15 787-10s and 20 787-8s.

HH Sheikh Ahmed emphasized the strategic vision behind this massive acquisition: “Our goal has always been to operate a modern, efficient fleet that can comfortably and safely carry large numbers of travelers over long distances. These additional aircraft will not only enable us to connect more cities but also significantly contribute to Dubai’s economic agenda D33, which aims to expand Dubai’s foreign trade map by adding 400 cities over the next decade.”

This order represents a significant leap for Emirates, already the world’s largest operator of Boeing 777 aircraft. The new additions to the fleet are expected to cement its leadership position further. Emirates plans to integrate the first of these new 777-9s into its fleet by 2025, with the induction of new aircraft continuing until 2035.

Stan Deal, President and CEO of Boeing Commercial Airplanes lauded the deal as “an incredible vote of confidence in the efficiency and versatility of the 777X family.” He noted that the 777-9 and 777-8 are ideally suited to support Emirates’ growth plans, offering improved environmental performance and unparalleled payload capability.

The 777 series, renowned for its capability to undertake missions up to 18 hours, remains the backbone of Emirates’ operations. These new aircraft are replacements for the retiring fleet and a provision for the airline’s future growth plans.

Moreover, Emirates has restructured its previous order of Boeing 787-9s, increasing its commitment to a total of 35 Dreamliners, which includes 15 Boeing 787-10s and 20 Boeing 787-8s. This move further underscores the airline’s dedication to maintaining a modern, efficient, diverse fleet.

In conclusion, Emirates’ bold move at the Dubai Airshow 2023 is more than a fleet expansion; it’s a statement of intent. It underlines the airline’s commitment to leading the global aviation industry into a new era where efficiency, connectivity, and customer experience are paramount. This deal reinforces Emirates’ position at the forefront of the industry and propels Dubai closer to realizing its vision as a central hub in the global economy.
