In an exciting announcement, The Broadmoor, in collaboration with the Colorado Springs Sports Corporation and Los Hermanos Ranch, has unveiled the highly anticipated return of The Broadmoor Winter Polo Classic for its second year. Set to take place on February 24, 2024, this prestigious event will once again grace the Norris Penrose Event Center.
Building upon the resounding success of last year’s inaugural event, which saw over 900 spectators gathered to witness thrilling polo matches, the 2024 Winter Polo Classic promises to be an even grander spectacle of horsemanship, skill, and glamour than the sport of polo is renowned for.
“Colorado’s deep-rooted connection to polo reflects our state’s enduring passion for adventure, sportsmanship, and the great outdoors,” remarked Jack Damioli, President & CEO of The Broadmoor. “The enthusiastic reception from both our local community and hotel guests for last year’s event was truly heartwarming. Whether you are a seasoned polo enthusiast or a curious newcomer, The Broadmoor Winter Polo Classic offers a splendid way to indulge in this timeless sport. We eagerly await the opportunity to award the coveted Penrose Trophy to the top-performing team in 2024.”
To elevate the tournament experience, The Broadmoor has meticulously curated an exclusive package for travellers. In addition to an array of winter activities, such as equestrian experiences, rejuvenating spa services, world-class dining, and outdoor winter adventures, The Broadmoor is presenting a brand-new, two-night Winter Polo package, encompassing the following:
- Classic accommodations for a two-night stay, with upgrade options available.
- VIP Reception on Friday night.
- Reserved Box Seating offers access to the prestigious Heritage Room, where complimentary food and drinks await, along with access to the tasting bar featuring local favourite Distillery 291.
- Convenient transportation to and from the polo grounds.
- An exclusive commemorative welcome amenity.
The Winter Polo Package starts at $999 and is available on a limited basis, with high demand expected to lead to a swift sellout.
While The Broadmoor’s winter polo will adhere to most standard and traditional polo regulations, there is one notable exception—the tournament will be held in a dirt arena rather than on a grass field. Teams will comprise three players, consistent with typical arena polo, and the matches will consist of four 7-minute chukkers (periods). In case of snow, the tournament will follow snow polo regulations. To ensure better traction in winter conditions, the polo ponies will be equipped with special cleated shoes, and a more extensive, lighter, bright red ball will be employed for play. The horses will be shod for the arena dirt without snow, and a traditional white ball will be used.
