Due to popular demand Viking has added 17 new Danube and 25 new Rhine River departure dates across five of its festive European river itineraries for 2024. The itineraries, which celebrate storied Christmas traditions along the banks of the Rhine and Danube, showcase some of Europe’s biggest and best Christmas markets amongst vibrant cobblestone cities, medieval castles, and quaint fairytale villages.
Three 8-day journeys sail central Europe’s Danube River, passing through Germany, Austria, Hungary, and Bulgaria. Christmas on the Danube, Danube Christmas Delights and Romantic Danube distil the old-world feel of the Danube, offering picturesque scenery and rolling green hills. Music lovers will be delighted with classical music performances in Vienna.
Christmas on the Rhine and Rhine Getaway sail the Rhine through Switzerland to the Netherlands. A 65-kilometre stretch of the Rhine River is UNESCO World Heritage-listed, stopping to visit castles, cathedrals and villages steeped in history. Basel and Amsterdam also have a thriving arts and museum scene.
“Europe really is a must-visit destination during the festive season. Browsing the charming Christmas markets with the sounds of carol singers, the smell of gingerbread and roasted chestnuts in the air is a magical experience,” said Michelle Black, ANZ Managing Director Viking.
Priced from $3,595, Viking’s The Heart of Exploring sale offers savings up to $2,000 per couple on 2024 and 2025 sailings for bookings made before 30 November 2023 or unless sold out prior. The new departures are scheduled to commence on 19 November 2024.
