FIFA WWCSydney’s hospitality sector witnessed an unparalleled surge during the recent FIFA Women’s World Cup, achieving stellar performance numbers that haven’t been seen since the early days of 2023. The sparkling jewel of Australia’s east coast, Sydney, became the epicentre of a global sports spectacle that boosted its hotel industry to new heights.

According to the latest reports released by CoStar, a trailblazing leader in online real estate analytics and property market insights, Sydney’s hotels marked a remarkable increase in their August performance metrics for 2023. Delving into the numbers, the city saw an occupancy spike to 80.7%, representing a significant 26% increase year-on-year. Furthermore, the Average Daily Rate (ADR) swelled to AUD261.83, a 9% rise. But what stole the show was the Revenue per Available Room (RevPAR), which leapt to AUD211.19, a whopping 37.3% increment from the previous year.

The FIFA Women’s World Cup, gracing Australian and New Zealand soils between 20 July and 20 August, undeniably played a monumental role in this hotel industry renaissance. Stadium Australia in Sydney was a prime hotspot for many memorable matches. Highlighting the undeniable allure of this global event, Sydney’s hotel occupancy reached a jaw-dropping 94.8% on Wednesday, 16 August, coinciding with the much-anticipated Australia vs. England semifinal. This fever of excitement was further evident when occupancy rates hit 93.1% on 12 August during the gripping quarterfinal showdown between England and Colombia.

Throughout August, the daily occupancy rates in Sydney consistently outperformed, remaining above the 70% threshold, with only three exceptions.

As football fans across the globe descended upon Sydney, the city’s hotel industry emerged as the undeniable champion, capitalizing on the FIFA Women’s World Cup’s magnetic allure.
