From record-breaking ticket sales, attendance and Official Hospitality sales, to the spectacular on-pitch skills – and culminating in Spain lifting the tournament trophy at the thrilling Final – the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ certainly lived up to its slogan of “Beyond Greatness”.
Looking back at this incredible event, hosted jointly by Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, several new records were achieved right from the start, with the growth in participating teams from 24 to 32. Even before the concluding weekend, FIFA had already confirmed 1.77 million tickets sold, and revenue in excess of USD $570-million, as well as a prize pot of USD $110 million.
Official Hospitality also demonstrated strong growth in interest and sales, with the commercial value of sales more than doubling from FIFA Women’s World Cup France 2019™, and the number of commercial hospitality packages delivered showing a 45% increase.
The Official Hospitality Programme at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ welcomed thousands of guests to hospitality facilities in the ten stadiums and nine beautiful host cities, and collectively serving:
- 5,000 strawberry Lamington cakes;
- 45,000 mini meat and vegetarian pies;
- 6,000 bottles of wine from the Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia;
- and over 750 kg of Australian and Aotearoa New Zealand cheese
In fact, 90% of the food and produce in all Official Hospitality spaces was sourced from local farms and suppliers.
“The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ was a spectacular success for all parties and players, really underscoring the achievements made in growing women’s football. Congratulations and thanks to our partners, hosts and customers who all contributed to taking the Official Hospitality at the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023™ ‘Above & Beyond’” – Jaime Byrom, Executive Chairman, MATCH Hospitality.
