Bolstered by cutting-edge sustainability measures, innovative service models, and a robust focus on community upliftment, ICC Sydney welcomed a staggering one million-plus visitors to its premises. These guests poured an unprecedented A$600 million into the regional economy, powering a gargantuan leap from the previous year’s A$190 million. On the itinerary were over 500 unique events, compared to last year’s 470,000 visitors and a mere 250 events.

Paul Scully, New South Wales Minister for Planning and Public Spaces, praised the venue. “ICC Sydney serves as an engine of change, drawing international business and top-tier talent to Australia’s premier global city. It’s en route to amassing a seismic A$1 billion economic footprint within the next five years,” Scully enthused.

The cultural, social, and economic effervescence the venue created is part of a larger vision, according to Geoff Donaghy, ICC Sydney CEO and ASM Global (APAC) Group Director of Convention Centres. “Our ethos goes beyond hosting events; it’s about creating lasting impact. We’re not just in the business of events; we’re in the business of driving success for our stakeholders, both local and international.”

According to internal reports, the centre boasts an extraordinary 99% client satisfaction rate, 96% delegate satisfaction, and an 83% team member engagement score. The year saw ICC Sydney host an eclectic mix of 18 international conventions, 106 national conventions, 54 exhibitions, and a record-shattering 84 live entertainment events. Despite ongoing global challenges, the centre blasted past its revenue and profit targets for FY2023.

Entertainment made a particular splash. The venue hosted 360,000 entertainment-hungry patrons attending sold-out performances by marquee names like Lorde, The Script, and Sting. Moreover, consumer entertainment shows exhibited robust performance metrics, surpassing even pre-COVID levels of engagement with a 96% patron satisfaction rate.

While climbing back to pre-pandemic levels of international participation remains challenging, Donaghy remains bullish. “We’re navigating global complexities with an eye firmly on the future. We expect full stabilization across all markets in two to three years.”

The centre’s focus on sustainability and social impact continues to win accolades. This year alone, ICC Sydney bagged 17 prestigious awards, including the 2022 Innovation Award from the International Association of Convention Centres and the Best Mega Venue in Australia for 2023.

Integral to this success is the centre’s commitment to inclusivity and equity. In addition to ongoing initiatives like the Legacy Program and its second Reconciliation Action Plan, which aims to engage and uplift Australia’s First Nations communities, ICC Sydney leads the industry in LGBTQIA+ inclusivity and workforce diversity.

The upcoming calendar appears electrifying as ICC Sydney embarks on its next financial year. International marquee events like the FDI World Dental Congress and the 23rd World Congress on Safety and Health at Work are just around the corner.
