Cultural Attractions of Australia recently hosted an inspiring evening for members of the collective and valued travel industry partners at the Australian National Maritime Museum’s Terrace Room, overlooking the harbour and city skyline. The event provided a platform for Cultural Attractions members to showcase their curated experiences across Australia’s leading galleries and museums, performing arts companies, historic sites and sporting attractions.
John Quertermous, Chair of Cultural Attractions, and Marketing & Communications Director of Bangarra Dance Theatre, welcomed attendees highlighting the collective’s purpose to provide specially curated experiences for travellers seeking journeys with a difference. Annabel Sullivan, Executive Officer, said “the timing was opportune to bring together the key people and attractions that amplify the global appeal of Australia’s Cultural Tourism with our tourism industry partners who are instrumental in reaching travellers seeking distinctive Australian cultural experiences”.
During the evening, Emily Jateff, Senior Curator of the Maritime Museum and Shipkepper, Mirjam Hilgeman shared highlights of their curated experiences for international and premium domestic travellers. These include an immersive behind-the-scenes tour of its vast collection stores showcasing hidden gems and historic artefacts highlighting this country’s maritime history, and an afternoon sailing on Sydney Harbour aboard one of its historic tall ships, Duyfken – a replica of the first European ship to reach Australia in 1606, with knowledgeable guides sharing fascinating stories of merchant trade expeditions of the Dutch East India Trading Company.
Catering for the event was by the Sydney Restaurant Group.
Cultural Attractions member guests at the event included the National Gallery of Victoria, Opera Australia, Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art, the National Museum of Australia, Bangarra Dance Theatre, Sydney Opera House, Australian Parliament House, Port Arthur Historic Site, Adelaide Oval and more.
