The wild peaks, rugged moorland and chocolate box villages of England’s Peak District can be experienced as they were meant to be explored – on foot – as part of a self-guided hike with nightly stays in quaint inns offered by European walking tour operator, On Foot Holidays.

Australians and Kiwis keen on experiencing On Foot Holidays’ week-long Peak District walk in 2024 can pay 2023 prices if they book by October 31, 2023, saving around 10 per cent.

One of 35 self-guided walks On Foot Holidays offers across Europe, the full seven-night Peak District trek from Cromford to Edale showcases the region’s open spaces, lofty hills, industrial history, enchanting cottages and picturesque hamlets nestled in rolling countryside. Along the way, walkers stay at a range of charming, family-run B&Bs, inns and small hotels.

Like all the walks On Foot Holidays offers across Europe, the hike is designed for independent travellers keen to experience fully the essence of a destination slowly, authentically and sustainably. Luggage is transferred between accommodations every day so hikers can enjoy the trail with just a light day pack. Walkers select their departure dates from those available and all routes are designed by locals and tested by staff from On Foot Holidays.

Available between April and October, On Foot Holidays’ Peak District hike starts in Cromford in Derbyshire, only two hours north of London by train. Cromford is the home of a water-powered cotton spinning mill established in 1771 – possibly the world’s first factory. The route takes walkers through the woods and then across open country to pretty Bakewell where the local tarts and puddings are renowned. Across moors and dales, walkers then reach Hathersage and climb to the top of rugged Stanage Edge.  Ascents of the fancifully named Win Hill and Lose Hill are made along with the grand finale of the walk -a hike from Edale up to Kinder Scout, with spectacular views of the valley and surrounding moors.

The walk includes walking of between three and 5.5 hours a day and is graded medium to hard, with easier options available each day. Shorter three, four and six-night itineraries are also available.

Including seven nights’ bed and breakfast accommodation, daily luggage transfers, route directions and maps, the full Peak District walk costs from £840 per person, twin-share (approximately A$1653 or NZ$1794 depending on exchange rates), based on current 2023 rates.

Australians and Kiwis who book the Peak District hike for 2024 will pay current 2023 prices, saving around 10 per cent, if they book by October 31, 2023.
