Planeterra, the world’s leading non-profit dedicated to uplifting communities through tourism, has announced the recipients of this year’s Global Community Tourism Fund. Through this grant program, Planeterra provides small grants of up to $3,000 USD, as well as community-specific training and mentorship to help local entrepreneurs and communities scale up and improve existing experiences.

After careful evaluation of numerous applications from community-led projects around the globe, 18 organizations were selected for their outstanding proposals and compelling vision for using tourism as a catalyst for community development.

“These organizations have demonstrated a deep commitment to responsible travel, showcasing innovative initiatives to promote cultural exchange, environmental conservation, local economic development, empowerment and more,” said Evie Nhdlovu, Manager, Global Community Tourism Network. “Their projects have the potential to create a lasting positive impact on their communities while offering visitors the opportunity to engage in meaningful and more responsible travel experiences.”

The selected community tourism enterprises are :

3. Muhabura Cultural Experience and Craft Centre (Uganda)
4. Red Rocks Rwanda (Rwanda)
5. Centro de Turismo Comunitario La Moya (Ecuador)
6. Asociación de Artesanas de Chorrera (Colombia)
7. Cooperativa de Agroturismo Red de Turismo Campesino (Argentina)
8. Asociación de Mujeres María del Mar Bocagrande (Colombia)
9. Sociedad de Turismo Comunitario Suni Uta Choquemarca (Bolivia)
10. Jamao Eco Tours (Dominican Republic)
11. San Vicente Ecoturismo (Mexico)
12. Asociación Turismo Rural Comunitario Kusi Kausay (Peru)
13. Tenacious Bee Collective (India)
14. Odisha Ecotourism Foundation (India)
15. North Andaman Network Foundation (Thailand)
16. SPOONS Cafe Restaurant (Cambodia)
17. Barauli Community Homestay (Nepal)
18. Sharing Seeds (Nepal)

As part of Planeterra’s support, each recipient will be granted financial assistance and logistical support from the nonprofit. Additionally, the Global Community Tourism Fund
recipients will have the opportunity to share their journey through various platforms, inspiring others to embrace the power of travel as a force for good.
