Iberia Joins British Airways and Qatar Airways to Expand the World’s Largest Airline Joint Business.Revolutionary changes are underway in international aviation as Spanish flag carrier Iberia teams up with British Airways and Qatar Airways. Beginning in December 2023, this trilateral alliance establishes the largest cooperative airline enterprise across the globe, bolstering the connectivity of the oneworld alliance hubs in Doha, London, and Madrid.

Previously, the powerful collaboration between Qatar Airways and British Airways had already shaped the largest airline joint operation, serving more than 60 nations. With the entrance of Iberia into the dynamic partnership this July, it marks an unprecedented leap in global travel accessibility.

Commencing December 11th, 2023, Iberia is slated to initiate a daily service from its base at Madrid Barajas International Airport to Hamad International Airport. This connection will significantly increase the passenger capacity between these two bustling oneworld hubs. Skytrax has consecutively voted Hamad International Airport the Best Airport in the Middle East for nine years.

The united services of Iberia and Qatar Airways will offer three daily flights on the Madrid-Doha route, promising unparalleled connectivity between the Iberian Peninsula and crucial markets in the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia. An exciting array of over 200 destinations will be within easy reach for passengers across these three airline networks.

With a seating capacity 288 in Business and Economy classes, Iberia will employ the Airbus A330-200 for its operations. The alliance’s expansion ensures that travellers enjoy a more comprehensive selection of award-winning products, such as Qatar Airways’ Qsuite, Iberia’s Business Class, and British Airways’ Club Suite. Whether the journey is for leisure or work, travel becomes a breeze with this partnership, offering choices for various destinations, flight schedules, fares, and smoother connections via Doha, London, and Madrid.

Holidays in the Maldives, Seychelles, Tanzania, Nepal, India, and Oman, shopping excursions in Singapore and Thailand, or visiting friends and family in Australia and Hong Kong have become more achievable and enticing than ever for travellers from Spain and Portugal. Moreover, passengers from the Middle East, Africa, Asia, and Australia can effortlessly reach Madrid, Lisbon, Ibiza, Malaga, Gran Canaria, and numerous other cities across Spain and Portugal.

In another remarkable first, loyalty members of British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus, and Qatar Airways Privilege Club will be able to gather and spend Avios, their common currency. This provision enables members to transfer Avios between their accounts and amalgamate their balances to avail of rewards offered by each programme.

Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr Akbar Al Baker, British Airways Chairman and CEO Sean Doyle, and Iberia CEO Fernando Candela all lauded this collaboration, expressing excitement about the increased travel opportunities and their commitment to providing the highest standards of service to their passengers. This triumvirate alliance signifies a significant stride in the global aviation industry, promising to create a ripple effect of enhanced travel experiences for worldwide travellers.
