It seems the Federal government is considering giving international carriers like Qatar more slots at Australian airports to end the ridiculous prices we are currently being forced to pay. Qatar chief executive Akbar Al Baker attacked Qantas for profiteering after COVID-19 in a media interview last year. Mr Al Baker said Qantas had cut flights to 50 per cent of pre-COVID-19 levels, more than doubled the price of airfares for Australians and rewarded its shareholders on top of getting billions of dollars of federal help during the pandemic.
“We are offering an alternative to the Australian people who we always like to serve,” Mr Al Baker said last October. According to retired SA travel agent and airfares specialist Frank Gatta, the prices of airfares since the return of travel is seriously a disgrace. Return business class to UK/Europe $12-15k and economy ranging from $3100-$4200 on one-stop carriers.
Consumers have had this pent-up demand. Let’s get back to sensible pricing. Look at the record profits being recorded !!!!
