The music is playing in St Mark’s, the world’s most beautiful square and the 16 euro cups of coffee are flowing. Gondolas are in keen demand, and the crowds are as thick as pigeons.
Fortunately, the sun also shone for our visit to ever-alluring Venice. You could be forgiven for thinking this is the middle of summer – but no, it is only April.
The crowds get bigger every year, a lady at L arte di Casanova said – everyone wants to see Venice, but something must be done soon…but I have no idea what. If you thought you might sneak into Venice before the summer rush this year, the news is terrible, I am afraid – very bad.
Here we are pushing through crowds on April 14. Summer does not officially start until June.
