The Queensland Government has announced its sponsorship of the third annual Accessible & Inclusive Tourism Conference in Asia-Pacific (AITCAP 2023). This year’s conference is especially significant as it is part of the 2023 Year of Accessible Tourism, an initiative that seeks to make travel more inclusive for everyone.
The Minister for Tourism, Innovation and Sport, the Honourable Stirling Hinchliffe MP, stated that the government’s support for AITCAP 2023 is part of a broader effort to position Queensland as a world-class visitor destination that is accessible to all. “More and more people with a disability and their families are looking for travel options that can cater to their needs,” said the Minister. “Queensland’s great lifestyle and world-class visitor experiences are too good not to be enjoyed by everyone.”
AITCAP 2023 will take place as a hybrid event, with an intensive 1-day in-person conference on April 28 at the Sea World Resort Conference Centre in Queensland, followed by a 1-day virtual conference on May 11. The conference will feature a range of side events and sessions that aim to help tourism operators and destinations learn how to better meet the needs of the 20% of travellers that have a disability.
GetAboutAble, a platform that helps people with disabilities find accessible travel options, is a proud partner of AITCAP 2023. The Queensland Government’s support for the conference is seen as a testament to their commitment to making Queensland a world-leading accessible and inclusive destination. Initiatives like the Accessible Tourism Toolkit, the Accessible Tourism in Queensland project, and associated funding for the Year of Accessible Tourism are all part of this effort.
The Sea World Resort Conference Centre and the dedicated online platform for AITCAP 2023 were both chosen for their accessibility. Anyone interested in attending the conference can register at https://aitcap.getaboutable.com/. For a free preview of what to expect, the AITCAP team has organised a webinar titled “Gold Coast: A City Where Everyone Is Included.”
With the Queensland Government’s support, AITCAP 2023 is set to be a groundbreaking event that brings together tourism operators, destinations, and advocacy groups from across the Asia-Pacific region to work towards a common goal of making travel more accessible and inclusive for all.
