For art and culture fans…

Visit Dobell House, the former home and studio of acclaimed Australian Artist Sir William Dobell, who lived there from the 1940s until his death in 1970. It is thought to have been designed by Dobell while he was an apprenticed architect. It was built using sand and gravel from the foreshore and cement powder brought in by barge. It is a unique example of an original ‘lake house’, having been added onto numerous times, Dobell House has been awarded a state heritage listing and contains original furniture and possessions, along with memorabilia, photographs, and audio-visual displays for an immersive experience of the acclaimed artist’s life.

If you appreciate culture and creativity, The Museum of Art and Culture, Lake Macquarie (MAC) sits on the lake’s foreshore surrounded by acres of leafy grounds and dotted with sculptures. The museum prides itself on hosting an exciting, constantly evolving program of nationally significant touring exhibitions as well as exhibitions featuring the work of the Hunter’s finest artists. An exhibition of the works from Australia’s most prestigious art prize, The Archibald Prize will take residence at the museum from 8th April – so don’t miss this opportunity to see some of Australia’s most inspiring artists’ work.

Over in Speers Point you’ll find the Lake Macquarie Multi-Arts Pavilion (MAP). MAP hosts national and international contemporary art installations, digital art screenings and audio presentations, live theatre performances, outdoor activities, and markets. The newest addition to the exciting Lake Arts Precinct, MAP is an immersive high-tech creative arts space which is cementing Lake Macquarie’s place as one of Australia’s leading creative cities.

For lovers of the outdoors…

Walk, cycle, or take a relaxing stroll along the foreshore of Warners Bay. This flat, 9km coastal walking track includes some of the most stunning views across the lake from its 380-metre-long elevated boardwalk built out over the lake around a headland. There are plenty of rest areas along the way, including cafes, to recharge your batteries.

The best way to see the Lake is to be on the lake. Step on board Lake Macquarie Cruises to view 30 kilometres of pristine coastline – and hopefully be entertained by dolphins riding the wave across the bow. Aboard the newly refurbished vessel, guests can choose from a range of scheduled public cruises or private charters including lunch or dinner cruises, as well as dedicated event cruises such as Christmas in July, or the Melbourne Cup.
