Arabian Travel MarketThe Middle East’s aviation industry is soaring to new heights as it experiences rapid growth, with Dubai International Airport seeing a 127% year-on-year increase in passenger numbers in 2022 alone. This surge is reflected in figures released by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) showing that Middle Eastern airlines’ traffic nearly doubled in January 2023.

To discuss the industry’s opportunities and challenges, Sir Tim Clark, President of Emirates Airline, will participate in a discussion with John Strickland, Director of JLS Consulting, at the upcoming Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023. The event will take place from May 1-4 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. During their conversation, Sir Tim will reflect on Emirates’ long-term strategy as it prepares to ramp up aircraft deliveries from 2024 while also tackling broader issues such as climate change.

Danielle Curtis, Exhibition Director ME, Arabian Travel Market, expressed her excitement about Sir Tim’s participation and said, “Emirates has firmly established itself as an innovative trailblazer within the global aviation industry, so I cannot wait to hear how Sir Tim and his colleagues are working to build a futureproofed and sustainable airline sector.”

The upcoming edition of ATM will focus on the leading role played by Gulf airlines in decarbonizing the aviation industry, with Emirates and Etihad Airways leading the way in sustainability initiatives. For example, Emirates recently announced the successful completion of a demonstration flight powered by 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) on one of its Boeing 777-300ERs.

ATM 2023 will also feature in-depth discussions dedicated to air travel on day two, with experts from Boeing, Etihad, and SimpliFlying gathering on the Global Stage to discuss The Net-Zero Future of the Aviation Industry.

In addition to Emirates and Etihad, a broad range of regional carriers, including flydubai, flynas, Saudia Airlines, Saudi Amad for Airport Services and Air Transport, and Cham Wings Airlines, will participate in ATM 2023.

ATM 2023 is anticipating a 7.5% year-on-year increase in participation and exhibition space occupied by the aviation sector, building on the excellent levels of engagement witnessed during last year’s show. The conference will explore the future of sustainable travel in line with its theme of ‘Working Towards Net Zero.’

As part of its sustainability efforts, the conference will feature a sustainability category at its annual exhibitor awards for the first time, recognizing exhibiting organizations’ efforts to reduce their carbon footprint.

ATM 2023 is held in conjunction with Dubai World Trade Centre and its strategic partners, including Dubai’s Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) as the Destination Partner, Emirates as the Official Airline Partner, IHG Hotels & Resorts as the Official Hotel Partner, and Al Rais Travel as the Official DMC Partner.
