As Japan grows in its appeal with its exotic and alluring mix of ancient traditions and high-tech sophistication, Australian small ship cruise specialist, Cruise Traveller, has packaged a new luxury voyage in March, 2024, that spotlights small, enchanting and rarely visited destinations lining Japan’s Seto Inland Sea.

Cruise Traveller’s 11-night ‘Undiscovered Japan’ package offers earlybird savings of A$4055 per person for bookings made before March 31, 2023.

Cruise Traveller’s cruise and stay package features a seven-night luxury expedition cruise in Japan aboard Ponant’s 184-guest exploration ship, Le Jacques Cartier.  Launched in 2020 and named after a 16th Century French maritime explorer, the sleek and stylish Le Jacques Cartier boasts a refined and intimate, French-styled elegance, fine dining restaurants, plush lounges, theatre, spectacular infinity pool, an expert expedition team and personalised service. All staterooms offer a private balcony or terrace.

The unique holiday begins with two nights in the ancient, castle city of Osaka before guests board Le Jacques Cartier in nearby Kobe for a week-long cruise that showcases the rich traditions, storied history, colourful customs, exotic cuisine, lush gardens and the lavish temples, shrines and palaces that make Japan one of the world’s most fascinating destinations.

The voyage follows pristine coastline and visits a selection of tranquil, traditional villages such as Tomonoura, Shimokamagari and Mitari that nestle by the Seto Inland Sea, a body of water separating three of Japan’s main islands – Honshu, Kyushu and Shikoku. The rarely offered cruise itinerary traces Japan’s oldest sea route, dating back to the seventh century, and features the famous, ‘floating’, World Heritage-listed shrine gate on the island of Itsukushima which appears to float over the water. The seafood and beach town of Yeosu in South Korea is also featured on the cruise, which ends in the city of Fukuoka where guests will fly to Tokyo for a two-night stay with time to explore the pulsating sights of the world’s biggest city with 39 million people.

Including the seven-night cruise, four nights’ accommodation, domestic flight in Japan, open bar aboard the ship and zodiac excursions, the 11-night ‘Undiscovered Japan’ package is available from A$9995 per person, twin-share – a saving of A$4055. Flights from Australia are additional, which Cruise Traveller can arrange. The savings are valid for bookings made by March 31, 2023. Subject to availability.
