According to the latest data from Webjet, Australians are more inclined to celebrate Valentine’s Day by taking a break within their country, with 81% of all travellers opting to fly domestically between 14-19 February 2023. The data revealed that Melbourne is the most popular destination among domestic travellers, followed by Sydney, Brisbane, and the Gold Coast.
The report also listed the top 10 domestic destinations for a Valentine’s Day trip, with Adelaide, Perth, Hobart, Canberra, Cairns, and Maroochydore rounding up the list. Meanwhile, Auckland, Bali, Wellington, Christchurch, and Manila were the most popular international destinations.
Webjet further revealed that 88.1% of all bookings were made for domestic travel, indicating that more Aussies prefer exploring the beauty of their home country during Valentine’s week. Interestingly, travellers aged between 46-55 years old were found to be the most likely to travel during Valentine’s Day, with 23.1% of bookings made by this age group. The second-highest number of bookings was made by travellers aged between 26-35 years old, accounting for 22.3% of all bookings.
It is worth noting that the data was collected from bookings made between 1 January and 7 February 2023, for travel between 14-19 February 2023.
