Zenbu Tours is thrilled to announce that Executive Chef Peter Gilmore, of Sydney’s prestigious Quay and Bennelong restaurants, will join Japan food specialist and author Jane Lawson as guest co-host , during her 12-day “Kyo-ryori “ Kyoto cuisine and culture tour 13 – 24 May 2023.
A mutual respect and friendship developed between the duo when Lawson, a renowned food and travel writer and Japanophile, acquired Gilmore’s ground-breaking QUAY cookbook (in her former role of food publisher at Murdoch Books), over 15 years ago.
Peter’s deep fascination for Japanese cuisine and aesthetic has a considerable influence on his culinary style and his return to Japan in May ’23 marks his 3rd Japanese culinary research trip with Lawson, and his inaugural venture into co-hosting Zenbu’s luxurious tours.
“Spending time in Kyoto with Jane gave me a deeper insight into the Japanese culture. The Japanese emphasis on beautiful presentation and how they represent nature and the seasons have been an almost subconscious influence on me. Because of Jane’s experience and network I had greater access to the culture” Chef Peter Gilmore
Lawson, who has travelled and researched extensively throughout Japan for 40 years, living in both Kyoto and Tokyo, has designed and hosted her high-end, small group Japanese food and culture tours since 2013 and has a loyal following of regular guests.
Jane Lawson says “Each small-group tour is immersive, inspiring & connected…. but also relaxed & plenty of fun. All our tours feature luxurious accommodations with wonderful hospitality, private transport, spectacular food & drink experiences, and unlimited visual & sensory feasts. We deep dive into local culture, enjoying regional specialities & connecting with place & its people.. “
Zenbu Tours is now taking expressions of interest for this exclusive journey – exploring the cuisine of Kyoto, Japan’s cultural heart.
